Question inspection questions/codes

its that time, time to get inspected. i reset my computer and the following codes came up after driving around for a litttle while,

13 - oxygen sensor failure
34 - MAF/MAP sensor too low
36 - transmission shift fault

now i know they hook up with a scanner to the OBD2 cars but what about OBD1's, will they be able to see these faults? also when they use the sniffer will the bad oxygen sensor lead to it failing for some reason? will it fail just because the check engine light is on?

need to know ASAP so i can make any neccessary repairs and get it inspected before the end of the month

PS - will be going to a private place

They may fail it for the check engine light, not sure though. If the o2 is bad, you should replace it, they are only ~$20. It may cause you to run rich, hurting power and killing your milage and emmisions.

any idea what the MAF/MAP sensor too low is supposed to mean?
an would a B&M shifter somehow set off the tranny shift fault code? it never did it with the TBI system

The B&M wouldn't cause it to throw a code....

No, a check engine light in a pre 96 (and some later model cars..if they are exempt, but thats a diff story) car wont cause it to fail inspection..

However if your 02 is bad, and because of it your running rich or otherwise spitting out excessive emissions, your gonna fail.

FOr that reason do like justin said and replace the 02, and if your really that worried about the light..clear the code right before you go (theres no readyness monitors ona 88 camaro lol) or pull the bulb out..theres no computer hookup

Maf sensors can get dirty esp if one is using a K&N oiled filter. remove the maf and look inside to see if there is any build up of dirt on the wire. If so used a little brake cleaner and gently clean it up. If this doesn't clear out the code then your maf is bad and will need to be replaced. You should be seeing a lot of black smoke comming out the back of you car with these two codes set as this is an indication of running rich.

ok i replaced the O2 sensor and the computer still says O2 sensor not ready but no more code 13, i was just reading in my manual that the O2 sensor must reach 600F for it to work and the car runs in "open loop" until then, so im guna go let it warm up and see if i can get it to say O2 ready

as for the code 34 with the MAF, i was told that if there is any air leaking in near the MAF sensor it could set it off, i just sealed it all up with some rubber couplings and clamps, so now im guna go disconnect the battery and let it reset and start all over

i was planning on pulling the bulb out of the dash anyway lol

i drove the car for a while n let it heat up but didnt get hot enough to go into closed loop

also on my old cat it had a pipe going into the smog pump from the cat, the new cat doesnt have an opening for it and the pipes just hanging there and when the car heats up it sucks air in and makes a loud annoying noise, should i cap it off or just leave it?

Yes, cap that off. Or just get rid of the smog pump all together.

Seems strange it won't go into closed loop.

Don't think windshield banners are allowed, but since you can tint the rear window as dark as you want I'm not sure about the flags

i think there is a banner/tint height that you cant exceed. otherwise its some kind of view obstruction. knowing the camaro logo, its more than likely fine. the rear im not sure about tho. im sure ull be fine.

i dont meant to hijack, but do they give the sniffer test to 2000 and up cars? if so i may have to PAY a visit to a private inspection center.

no sniffer for OBD2 cars. they just check all the monitors to make sure they have all been run, then they check the gas cap.
