what are the Pros and Cons of STS turbo on 5psi?

i went on STS's site, and i must say that i am very impressed with the dyno numbers on a stock LS1. Another thing i saw was that they have up to 24 month financing. thats pretty cool too!

So anyways i was considering possibly doing the STS next year perhaps. but i wanted to ask everyone that actually has first hand experience with these things, not just people who heard about it. good sides and bad sides, if any

heres what i came up with-

Pros- big jump in HP and TQ, eat other cars alive, sweet turbo sound!

Cons- Lag? Price, lol, possible future issues with it? more tires that im going to buy for the rear because of the power gains.

never had an fbody in the shop with one of those setups, but we've had a few trucks with them, and the owners never have anything bad to say.i would be afarid of it getting wet(hot cast iron turbo housing getting splashed with water),and what do they do to prevent u from sucking up water into the inlet

you are correct. they have since fixed the water issues with those jackets and shields for the splash guards.

my issues with this system:
1. you cant use a driversside subframe connector with a sts system.
2. oil line going down the length of the car
3. not as efficient as a front mount.
4. front mounts are close in price (gmrspeed.com)

1. Water issue
2. Oil line (people have had issues with them getting cut from stuff on the road)
3. Loss of Sub Frame connectors
4. Loss of dual exhaust outlets

Better off putting in heads and cam

I just dont get the pricing on them...they make a kit that bolts up to your existing exhaust. They can make ok power but you also need the right combo to make them work well...a stock convertered car will run like a stocker till probably 4500 rpms...so the times wont be there but the mph will be...thunder tried this on one of their shop cars. I dunno how well your M6 will do because you wont be able to build much boost off the line. I would say from a roll it will be alot of fun, but I know when ttp did the one install on the one guy from here it was like $8000 after it was all said & done.

Yeah, I would go with the PTK system anyday (turbo is underhood). I saw an STS system being installed on a 98 Z up at Stage 1 in Pompton Plains, and I wouldnt take one for free. Its WAY overpriced for what it is, and overall I think its just a horrible design. The pipes hang down very low, and the pressure side tubing runs under the axle. Its just a horrible setup IMHO.

STS systems are designed to work WITH a stock cat in place. even at that they start to spool around 2500, which is typical of most of the systems on teh market.
water is also not really an issue unless you drive through 2ft deep puddles routinely. teh turbo and the intake filter sit high behind the rear firewall, just like the stock muffler.
oil line running the length of the car is a problem? the fuel feed and return lines are that long but no one minds.
the only problems that i have heard about the kits are that the uning is very conservative. you really shoudl go get a custom tune after the install to make it perform best, and the loss of subframe connectors. you can still run them, but you have to make a custom piece for the drivers side.
