Best Junkyards
What are the best junkyards in the area? I haven't been to any recently, but I have a list of miscellaneous parts I am going to be looking for off of a 98+ FBody. Growing up I used to go to Kober's Auto Salvage out by Washington and one out by Clinton called Cozze's. Are there any good ones in the Morristown area?

No not really. Theres a junkyard somewhere in PA that specialized in Vettes/Camaros/Firebirds If I recall correctly. The one in Roxbury used to be awesome... last weekend I went in there, and they crushed basically everything that was in there.

I make semi regular trips to GI Auto Salvage, off route 46 in Pine Brook (just west of the Caldwells). They had a decent number of Camaro's in there the last few times I was there (September 2005), both third and fourth gens. Firebirds and Trans Ams are stripped very quickly once they come in, so they cycle through quickly.

+1 for G.I. Auto. They always have afew f-bodies, although it looks like the majority are thirdgens.
When is the best time to go? Is there a regular day they bring cars in?

Untamed,
Will GI Auto Salvage let you walk through the yard and browse for parts? I am doing a resto-mod and there are a lot of little items that I am looking for.

i think you just have to go to the main office to check in and let them know what you are looking for and they'll direct you to where the parts may be. but it's been a while since i've been there.

When we went last year we just walked around, and when we couldn't find what we needed, we went to the office to see if they had any.

Yeah what they said. All the gate guy will do is check your tool box to make sure you dont walk out with anything not paid for. Walk around and enjoy the paved area. Used to be a giant swiming pool and a pain in teh ass to get to some cars. Now its much easier.
Only problem I've had with GI Auto is weekend parking. Place fills up fast and the people stick around to work on their cars right there in the parking lot which they arent supposed to do. If you speak spanish and can take on 4 guys at once, ask them to move. If you cant do either, and are willing to walk a block, go park in the McDonalds parking lot down the street.

GI Is a walk around, but whenever I go I hardly find 1st, 2nd, & 4th gens. They usually have a good amount of 3rd gens though. Always hagle the prices! Never pay what they ask.

There's a great one in Central Jersey called Red & Black. They have a lot of 3rd gens, but there are some 4th gens there too. They let you walk the yard there too.

Newton, Newton auto salvage. 973-383-1753. One of north jersey's best kept secrets (much like the daily planet) Many 3rd gens. occasionally some 4rt gens. Call first for needs. good prices, Nice guys and you can walk the yard. Mike, the owner, is a thirdgen guy. He used to get alot of cars that were donated for charity. when ever I need a set of quick wheels I go there. IE.-$300 honda that ran for a year and a half. If there is a downside it is that it is small. The turnover is fairly fast though. Like I said, Call first.

Not in NJ but out in PA: 3 locations: Allentown, Pennsburg (Quakertown) and Hazelton, there is Harry's! ( http://www.wegotused.com/) Always see 2nd and 3rd gens, a few times saw some 4th gens. Inventory changes fast (Atown-1,000 cars/Pburg-2,000/Htown-3000+). A bit of a terk but always had good luck. $2 entry and they check your toolbox. Great place to get good, cheap parts! Edd

If anyone has ever traveled on the PA Turnpike, about 30 minutes west of Carlisle, there's a huge salvage yard on the south side of the turnpike. I have no idea what the name is or how to get there, but I pass it alot on my way to and from Washington, PA.
If anyone knows of the place I'm talking about, please let me know how to get there. I pass it alot and would like to stop in for an hour or three of browsing.

There are 2 not too far from each other. There's one I think called U Pick that's on 537, and the other is at the corner of 537 and 68. Dunno the name of that one tho. Never been in them tho
