there's just a generally high minority population anyhow, its hard to call them minorities anymore... i wouldnt say that a lot of those states have a high hispanic population, the one's i bolded, unless someone says otherwise, i think are pretty 'white' states...

Negative. You are either a majority, a minority, equal numbers, or none of the above (as in no majorities, all populations less then 50%). Non-Hispanic whites are still the majority, so as long as there are at least 51% non-Hispanic whites, all other races are a minority.

For some of those senators, they may have been voting based on principle. Our forefathers didn't see a need, why should we? Or, America is about freedom, etc. For others, such as NJ or HI, I would think the vote was a result of constituencies.

They want the Spanish-speaking vote?

Remember most politicians do anything to stay in office.

its just sad we all try to do the right thing, if you work for a living, differ on how and what, but in the end the ship is being driven buy greed and self worth, cant believe the dems party has been stolen by self interest and its voting block is letting them do it --- maybe i only see it that way jz

America may be about freedom, but that doesn't mean I should have to ****ing learn spanish to get my money out of the bank, order food, explain how to do something etc.

I say if you can't speak the language of the country as it was originally founded upon you shouldn't be allowed in.

While I agree this country never had and still doesn't have an official language.

I agree that spanish shouldnt replace english, but to say that if you cant speak the launguage, you shouldnt be allowed? Most of the people on this site would not be here if there was such a law, including yourself.

Honestly, and this could be my area of Jersey, but I've never, and I mean never, had to speak spanish to do any of those activities mentioned. I think some people (not targeting you here, saying in general) just get a bit overzealous about culture and language. Every second generation Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, etc., person that I know speaks fluent English, and many also speak fluent Spanish. I think not speaking English hinders those unable to speak it more then the rest of the country. My 2 cents right there.

Social Networks:

question: what would change if english is no longer the official language of the US? will anyone be able speak any language they want? or have we just decided that spanish is cooler? don't give me that BS that you cant get citizenship if you dont speak english cause everyone hear knows of a grandparent that doesnt know a lick of english.

I am kind of neutral on this subject (even considering how redneck I can be sometimes) I know America is about freedom and that people should be able to choose what language they speak, but at the same time it kinda irks the **** out of me how everything is in 15 languages now. ehh who knows

The citizenship test is very easy...nothing an immigrant who knows very little about the US couldn't pass with a few hours worth of studying and memorization.
