Gotta love working on old cars!

Well, after the SS heated up pretty good on the way home I decided I might as well drain the radiator and change the t-stat and cap to make sure the cooling system is ready for the next adventure. So naturally, the radiator petcock was put in off center and won't budge to come out. So I start to loosen the fitting it goes in that threads into the radiator. Cool, it starts to come out and I slowly turn it until I get a drip. One more 1/4 turn and plunk, it falls out into the bucket and I get a gusher of coolant down my arm! I had to hold my finger over it until it was dripping out slow enough to stay in the bucket by itself. Now you know why all my t-shirts are ruined. It ran down my arm and my back was soaked but I couldn't move my arm while I was holding my finger over the opening. It's drained now, but the fitting is still in the bottom of the bucket! Time for dinner now, then I'll go fish out that fitting.

that would explain why i usually back the car up to the street and just pull the lower hose off. storm drain will catch whatever the pan doesn't.

Ah yes, gear oil is some nasty smelling stuff! I remember getting that all over me when I had to swap out an axle on the 68 LT1 car I had. Hmmm, maybe that explains why I smoke cigars, hides those automotive smells!

Yeah, gear oil is about the rudest as you can get. I was working on a Torino 9" a few years back and accidentally cracked one of the rusty axle tubes. I didn't notice at first and walked away for a little while. When I came back the smell was overpowering and there was a DARK black puddle around the axle. You could smell the stink 250 feet away. I ended up having to tile the garage floor because the concrete stain was too righteous for anything else. I'm pretty sure that it was the original 1970 gear lube.
