day gone wrong, a "medivac", and emergency surgery later...

yesterday had to be the worst day of my life. 4 those that dont know, i am a garbage man. im looking at the time now and its 8:18pm, and when i get done typing this itll prolly be 10 lmao. anyway, it was a bit rainy yesterday morning, meaning some of the garbage i was picking up was a little wet. so we come up to this pile of garbage, with a cpl steel sinks, a toilet, and some heavy bags of sheetrock. so me and my driver are throwing this **** in, and i come across the toilet. i pick it up, walk it over to the truck, and it slipped from my hands and broke at the edge of the garbage truck. and first instinct is to catch it all before it hits the ground... well i did that and felt a slight piinch... well, the porcelin cut my wrist when i went to catch it. i looked and there is wrist/arm muscle hanging out. so im spewing blood, and my driver is going insane trying to find a towel while im running frantically trying to find some help. the cut was about 5 inches diagnal on my right wrist starting about 2 inches below my thumb. the gash was deep enough to see bone and thick enough to see alot of veins, about 3/4 inches. well, i lost blood profusely and started to turn pale on the verge of losing conciousness. by then, a cop was there, and i lost a huge amount of blood. the chopter was called but poor weather prevented it from coming. so i was stuck riding the ambulance.

i arrive at morristown hospital and they immediately put me in the trauma unit. asked me questions, etc... this was @9am. so a hand surgeon came in, inspected it and told me i had a date with the operating room. but emergency surgery was on hold cuz i ate @6;30 that morning and had to wait 8 hours.

i went into emergency surgery and it was ok. i will prolly lose some function in fingers and wrsit, cuz a total of 7 tendons were severed, along with some muscle and a vein. i go to the docs on tueday to determine what i go from here. ill be outta work @ 4 - 12 months from what the doc said. i wont be able to drive for a while, and im limited to my left hand for doing everything and im a righty.

anyway, id like to thank the few handful that called/txted me while i was overnihjting at the hospital. it means alot. so i prolly wont be posting much due to the limitation of a non-dominant hand, so feel free to call/msg me if u wanna bs. i wont post a number up, but i give the people who do have it permission to pass along. ill pop in occasionally. and again, thanks

-noah

Holy crap man! You definitely need to find another job/profession. With the guy getting run over you told us about and now this! That sucks big time and I sure hope you get back most of the normal use of your right hand. I guess you'll be an expert at the left handed mouse pretty soon! We might need another section on the board called the Injury Room!

Noah, you're lucky I wasn't your driver because I would've passed out. I'm litterally lighted from reading the description. That's got to suck, but it definitely could have been worse and it's good to hear you're doing alright. Take it easy man, and here's to a speedy recovery.
