i have the regular 8500... i think its time for one of those and a shifter for the highway like i always wanted
the only thing i hate about escort is they promised the 8500 to be reprogrammable, but by reprogrammable they didn't mean to upgrade the software like everyone assumed. misleading advertisement sucks

A cheap radar detector is not worth anything; you'll probably get more tickets. Slow down.

yeah mine is a 40$ special, works, just when it even hints at a cop slow down cause the sensitivity isnt that great. I dont speed, i just like to know where the cops are, they pull me over for stupid **** all the time. "your exhaust is too loud"...flowmaster 40 on a 3.1 v6..really not that loud.

Cheap detectors go off too late to be useful, or false so much they get ignored (but the level of speeding does not diminish). I’ve used cheapies & good ones. No contest. Valentine One. It tells me how many signals it is picking up, and from what direction. Those features are awesome. But none of them effectively beat laser, no matter what they say. Laser detection is dumb luck – hoping for a light bounce.

But I barely use mine anymore, just long highway trips where the left lane flow is pretty fast – and the kids are not in the car. Plus they are of very little use if you are by yourself on a road – then you have to hope the officer leaves his gun on. Speeding on local roads is always dangerous and FTL.

when i had my STS, it had a built in K40, front and rear, worked greta, well hidden. i got a speeding ticket once, but apparently it never went off, or the cop lied. Even when i had another one is my SS, i dont rely on it. and for some reason whenever i used to decide to be stupuid and speed, turns out thats when it would not be plugged in. Now i just use it for a heads up where cops MAY be, i dont speed and hit the brakes when it beeps. I dont speed like i used to.

Agreed. From my own experience and from seeing the driving habits of others.

i use my radar detector only for the camaro. cops are very unforgiving for young adults in sports cars. i slow down and look cautious whenever it goes off just to humor cops. i also have more urges to slam on the accelerator like a retard in the camaro then i do the saturn. i'll probably be upgrading to the new escort this summer, along with the laser shifter which from my understanding works like a charm.

Basically you just need to spray a darkening shade to your headlights + lisence plate.
