two months later and i am still there. it's really been a decent trade off, this working for free. before school ended (last day of last month), i had told just about everyone in the class where i would be and what i would be doing. some were actually jealous. to them, i am getting a free education. all i have to do is show up everyday.
my boss has given me my own project, a '92 ford f-150 that his brother owns. i have been doing everything from start to finish (hopefully i'll get the paint on it tomorrow). it's been an interesting project: everything from normal door dings to rust repair, using a variety of methods to fix it.
i bought my first hammer and dolly from snap-on. i was using a worn out pair that my brother-in-law used to use in his garage (mechanic, mostly, with some basic body repair). the dolly is one of the general purpose jobs that still has its uses, because the one i bought is a "heel" dolly, mostly used for door skins. the hammer is a double head, one head is a round flat surface and the other end looks like a chisel. the old hammer had a round and a square head. i also glommed his slide hammer, and a few other hand tools. he's got this stuff stored at my in-laws, so it's easy to bop over there and grab stuff that i need. the shop i am at is pretty well fully stocked with tools, but i needed some stuff to use at home.
i've been looking at colors to try to figure out what i am going to use on the '87 project. i know it's going to be black with red/yellow/orange flames, but there are just SO many colors out there that would work. and, to flake or pearl... or not to... i dunno. i guess i'll start thinking more about it as i get closer to getting the bodywork completed.
since the owner threw in "parts" as a closer when i went in for the "interview", i asked him for a '92 high rise spoiler. i found one in year one's catalog, and passed along the info. i think he ordered it yesterday, so it should arrive sometime next week. i am not going to be looking for too much more, since i purchased just about everything else i need before i started the internship.
anyway, it's been fun
and educational.
