Talking the '69 lives (and drives)

no one is going to believe me, but i am going to have to tell you what was wrong with it, anyway...

it needed a new battery. the one that was in there was only two years old, but it wasn't holding a full charge and the MSD digital distributor needs a minimum in order to work properly. i never saw that in the paperwork, nor in their info available at their website, but it's got to be the truth because the mechanic that i sent the car to only charged me for the battery - and you know if it was something else he would have charged me for that as well.

so it's running. the tune hasn't changed all that much in all the time it was dormant, so i haven't touched anything. i will have to take a look at the brakes, though, some time this year. they have a slight grinding feeling to them, and with four wheel drums, i had better not fool around too much (like ignoring them and turning the radio up so i can't hear them, or something similar ).

if i get the '87 done this year, then work will commence on the body next spring. of course, i hope to keep the amount of bodywork to a minimum and may just drive it in primer for a while, as i get certain sections completed.

my insurance is with Hagerty. $206 for the year with a zero deductible.

the grinding noise might just be surface rust, but if it doesnt go away after a few miles, its best to check it out.

I've seen batteries that looked good and strong and put out close to 13 volts but once they are injured, they usually can't be saved and the numbers mean nothing. I toasted a battery in my turbo 4Runner but it kept reading good, the headlights were bright, all the power accessories were strong, but it wouldn even crank over the engine. Hopefully the car won't give you any more problems Jim. Are you planning on going to the Jackson Outlets cruise night next Friday? As long as it isn't raining, I hope to be there.

yes, jeff, i had an invite from a fellow student at the vo-tech, so i had planned on going.

there is only one wire to connect. it comes straight from the battery to the distributor. no other way to wire it.
