Will nitrous blow up my motor?

I have a 87 T/A and the motor has 90,000 on it I originally thought nitrous would be no good for a motor with that many miles on it but on thirdgen.org I've seen a few people who say they've used a 100 shot on cars with high mileage. My engine has good compression , but I don't know if it'll actually be able to handle nitrous without being re-built.

the key to not blowing it up, is to have a good, safe, window-switched to the balls setup and be sure its tuned so u dont go lean and go boom boom from what i hear.

yes it will

If you ask questions like this you obviously haven't done any research and because of your lack of research you WILL blow the motor

Get a nice fuel system, -2 points of timing for every 50hp shot of nitrous, and get accurate fuel pressure gauges, n20 pressure, and a window switch, I wouldn't spray more then a 100 shot though. Unless you want big boom.

edit,

I forgot a tune

I believe that He is in the process of researching, hence the reason why he's asking questions and getting different views on this topic, no? Then we have people like you that post replies like this and make him feel like a d***. Forgive j0n, he probably just killed a pint of yukon jack, now hes a grumpy bastard!

All joking aside though, Did u buy the N2o yet? or are you looking to buy ?

Wayfast summed it up pretty good

Based on what ive read and witnessed- as far as LS1's go

"LS1's can handle 150wet shots all day, as long as they are properly setup for it" which would include a number of things, such as window switches, fpss, bottle warmers and purges to stabilize bottle pressure, a good tune, hell, Ive read that some people even run 2 n20 solenoids, just in case one gets stuck open, the other one can function as necessary.

Bottom line s*** happens.

98 LS1's can easily blow up w/o nitrous

Me and grandmastercow found this out the hard way
not because of lack of matienence, but because we did not know that 98's were notorious for the connecting rod bolts stretching and then kaboom bye bye LS1

I posted this because whenever I do any research on it I get mixed answers.I definitly am not going to go above a 100 shot I'm almost sure anything else will blow the motor.I have'nt bought anything yet but I've been looking around and I'm going to buy NOS's sniper kit if I get anything because its relatively cheap and it's only a 100 shot which is exactly what I need and it has a plate that will fit under my carb.I also have a friend who has a 85 trans am and he bought the power shot kit with 100 shot nozzles on it, but he takes forever to put anything new on his car , so I'm waiting to see what happens to his car after he tries it.

The sniper is cheap because it doesn't include a fpss, wot, window switch, or any other safety features.

Remember, "Cheap, Fast, Reliable...you can only pick two"

In the long run -YES. NOS will wear and tear the motor apart even with 75-125 shot. Now add the high mileage to your motor and its on borrowed time.

If it was me-

Bigger Fuel Pump
Window switches
Purge kit
cooler plugs
Bigger injectors
blow down kit
tune
window FP gauge
window A/F gauge

and a plate system or Direct Injection

and a pro shop who knows what they are doing.

Even with the proper setup its only a matter of time before you will need to re-ring and maybe new pistons on the car.

If you have a relaibe set up that is set at a safe level you will have no problem spraying 100 or so hp. If you have no experience with nitrous installs and tuning I would suggest that you find a shop that does. I do know of one such shop

YES NITROUS CAN BLOW YOUR MOTOR UP if used improperly or radically

i guess a "safe" bet would be the engine could handle 60% of its power output, so a 400hp 406ci could handle 640 easily, so spray that bitch with 2 stages and hope it holds to 1000hp lol....

now for reliability in give or takeee miles lol...

For another 100k miles from the motor go with a 75 - 125 horse shot.

For another 20k miles ishh go with a 150 - 200hp *

*pay attention to fuel psi and your ignition timing, i used synthetic oil as well instead of reg. oil

For 10 to 20 good passes before a piston is ripped from the wrist pin area and/or a spun bearing such as my old motor...

10 passes use a 400hp shot
20 passes use a 300hp shot..

of course all the goodies the other guys said too... timing...ignition....fuel....etc is a huge factor....

i have a nitrous ready 350 4 bolt main shortblock motor with a roller cam for sale for cheapppp as well.....
