wireless computer help (please!)

ok, so i am having a small problem connecting the two computers. i got Netgear's WGR614 and WG111 (brand new, cheap on eBay). obviously, no problems connecting the host computer (the one i am on) through the hardwired lan port and the cable modem is connected (again, obviously). the problem is the remote computer with the WG111 USB 2.0 wireless adapter running windows XP pro (host is running vista). i don't think there should be able issue with the two operating systems, since the router is handling the wireless chores externally (not going through the host computer). so, i think there is something up with the settings on the XP computer, but i don't know what. i am using the Help screens, to no avail. they want the two computers to be hardwired, which defeats the purpose of having a wireless adapter on the remote computer. what am i missing?

as always, any help is graciously accepted with many thanks.

Your computer that can connect has nothing to do with the the one that cannot. You have a router, it doesn't go through the host computer at all.

From the wireless computer, go to hppt://192.168.1.1. Default log in for the router should be admin and password, but not positive. If you can get into it, the wireless is working, it's a different issue. If you cannot, go to the computer that is hardwired and go to the same address and log in to the router. Check the settings (do you have encryption on already, MAC address filtering, etc).

Also, have you run the network setup on the laptop in XP already?

i deal with this crap all the time. go to the website of the wireless router and the wireless card and check for any firmware updates. I'll bet you 10-1 there is an update for it, and ill bet you 20-1 your not upto date. upgrading the frimware alone solves 99% of the issues.
