Opti?

Ok, so the formy now has 85k miles. I'm told that around the 90k mark the opti tends to take a dump. Should I replace it soon or what?

opti goes because of the water pump........ Id replace the water pump! opti sparks are a pain to remove and costly!

Really? Because my opti went and my water pump was perfectly fine. I wouldnt go replacing the opti until you notice a problem. Mine went at 60k I know of some lasting well over 100k.

Mine went at 120k IIRC. The install is nowhere near as difficult as most people think. If I were you I'd buy the parts(new water pump, water pump gaskets, coolant, opti) and put them somewhere in the garage in case you have catastrophic opti failure(IE the rotor explodes...ask me how i know about this one ). But like Jon said, no reason to replace it before you start to notice problems.

Mine lasted 100k miles and then I just bought a new one when I upgraded to heads & cam. Don't touch it until it breaks!

I replaced mine when I got the car, and the new one lasted only like 10k miles. I must have gotten a bad one The one after lasted until I sold the car though, so about 30k with no problems.

If it aint broke don't fix it. If you're having problems or performance issues then worry about it. It is a very good idea to replace the WP and opti at the same time because you have all the stuff off already. You do need a few tools like a 3 finger puller and hub puller and getting the new seals in right can be a pain, so doing both at once is just a good idea.
