Mercedes C-Class
I know most of you don't care for the benz's.... and I guarentee you have seen a new C-Class commercial......lord knows we are playing it everywhere
But, very shortly there will be a C63
Modest 451 hp and 443 tq
approx 4,034 lbs
Approx $63K
It was recently tested by car and driver
0-60 in 3.9 seconds
1/4 mile at 12.3 seconds @ 116 mph
Car was not broken in yet..... usually they get about 0.2 quicker once broken in.....and usually magazine testers aren't always the best 1/4 mile drivers.
I kinda expect to see some of them dipping into the 11's bone stock.... in a 4 door sedan So, if you are out cruising and come across one.... be aware that it is kinda quick
Sorry for the post.... I'm a big fan of the car, I'm cruising around in an 08 C350 sport now
Yes, the C6 is cheaper...... but this is a 4 door car that gets similar performance

Supercharged with madd down low torque i take it? Is this like CTS-V sized car that also competes with M5? or is it speedish and luxury, with not as much emphasis on handling?

I love the new C-class cars. MUCH better looking than the previous generation and the C63 sounds like a bad *** car.

Naturally aspirated
Strong emphasise on handling vs. its predesessor

Well, the SL65, CL65 aqnd S65 have 604 HP and 738 tq
And..... that 738 tq is from 2,000 rpm's to 4,000 rpm's
Maybe that?
Or, the SLR but that has 617 hp and only 575 tq

woah that's definitely different. Haven't all MB motors been supercharged that make >400 hp?
And that handling should definitely help it

they used to...they changed it around due to pedestrian safety issues. The supercharger in CLs and E classes made the crumble zone (incase you hit a person and they go up on the hood) very ineffecient, so they changed it to a 6.2L 510 HP N/A engine to gain more clearance.
The C63 is a detuned version of that 510 hp engine.
I've driven a handful of 08s thus far, only 1 6 speed to date though...they must have revised the shifter in it because it is much more smooth than in the 203 chassis. If i had the money i would love to own a new c-class, very well done.
as far as the higher HP vehicles, max like 12secondv6 said is 617 hp out of a supercharged 5.5L. The engine in the SLR is based on, but totally different than a supercharged 5.5 found in SL55, CL55, and E55s. Brabus however I'm sure has a couple of things to make the SLR more powerful, along with the 65 series cars (twin turbo v-12)...they're lots of fun.

not as of 2006 or so. the 6.2L V8 (badged 63, to pay homage to the SEL 6.3) are N/A and makes 450+ hp in the C, CLK 500+ in the E, SL, S, CL, CLS Even the 5.5L V8 in the regular cars like E550, CLK550 are making 382 hp.
Furthermore, the new C63 AMG was designed to be a AMG car from the get go. It's not merely the C-Class with upgraded engine/suspension, etc. good times

Had a C class a few years back. Never will get a benz again. Bad transmissions. Glad I only leased it, could not wait for it to be up. Even said so when I turned it in. They guy at the dealership said " transmission, right?" Good luck to any that get one.

A. That was a 203 chassis, the WORST car theyve produced in some time, as far as noises, squeaks, and overall driveability problems (especially with the 271 engine the DOHC supercharged 4 cyl). It was manufactured in brazil.
B. Depending on the year, the 722.6 aka 5 speed auto had some issues mainly because the trans cooler would fail causing coolant to get into the trans and it needing to be replaced. The 722.9 aka 7 speed auto has had many issues over the years needing valve bodies and such, but has since been revised and is working rather well. If you had problems, they should have been covered under warranty. If anyone buys a benz thats not under warranty they either have a whole lot of money or have no idea what theyre getting into.
As far as the 7 speed in the C63...Its another reason why mercedes decided to go N/A with their engines. The 722.9 (7 speed) can't handle initial the torque output of their supercharged V8, or the twin turbo v-12 engines. However, the 63 series engine makes all of its power on the top end, revving to like a million RPM. Therefore, they can use the 722.9 in them as theyre trying to phase that transmission into more and more vehicles.

I know it's tough after a bad experience, but since they've redone it from the ground up I think you should save comment until you try it. And I'm not just saying that cause I"m married to James, I'd say it no matter what.
Just go for a test drive. I bet you'll feel different. Not to say you would get one then, but I think you'll see a difference.
