Toyota Tundra Commercials

Did anyone else know that they were 100% real or am I the last to find out?

Because I’m impressed...

i still think its silly. i just wish instead of saying it has a strong frame or it has big brakes, they would give us a benchmark or some sort of number. i can tell you that i can run really fast and show you a video of me running, but with nothing to compare it to, you don't know if i'm an accomplished athlete or an average joe jogging down the street

Yeah I’ve never seen any straight up stats in those commercials it’s always directed as a challenge that no other truck can accomplish.

i dunno.. this picture screams photoshop.. but regardless, even if the truck can accellerate and stop like the ad's say it can, one look at it one a bumpy road course and it looks like a rubber band.

So what. They swung metal beams over a truck and drove it over some platform. I can see better stuff at the circus. It still has the lowest ratings compared to every other truck in its class.

just to play devil's advocate, why'd it win C&D Truck of the Year?

yea, or because its new. Or because everything is whatever of the year it seams like. I don't listen to any of that anyway. I can tell you that I think the Kia Spectra is the best car in the universe, but you, like every other breathing creature, have your own brain to realize I'm retarded for thinking so. It's all personal opinion based on what you find important in a vehicle. Seeing that Motor Trend finds that a truck doesn't need to have any of the features, say, a truck owner would want in a truck, then if a non functioning pseudo truck that can't do anything a real truck can do truck is what you're in the market for, then they say that's the best one.

First off, there is so much ******** tied into the Tundra winning Motortrend TOTY its unbeliveable.
Let me go down the list
1- It was new for 2007, and Toyota wanted it to be a 2007 so that it could skate under the radar with the 2007 and older EPA gas milage estemate.

2- It went against the upgraded SD F series and HD GM trucks, in which GM held a MAJOR advantage. If you read the article, they applaud GM's most powerful yet fuel efficent Dmax engine and improved Allision transmission. They said the trans now shifts as smooth as any luxury car and that the power was amazing. They also praised the upgraded interior, THE ONLY truck in its class to offer a more luxruious interior as well as a work-oriented interior for those who need less fluff. But because those were HD trucks, and not regular every day trucks, they gave the Tundra better on road maners because...its a smaller truck.

3- The ever increasing pile of recalls and failures involving the Tundra is even mentioned in the article, and even more so inthe on line article where they talk about the delaminating tail gates. They talked about the cam shaft failures, torque converter failures, and now news of problems with drive shafts. Yet still, it won toty over GM's supurb HD trucks that are clearly best in thier class, not to mention that the regular half tons won last year, and that CTS won COTY means thaty they could not possibly cave to giving back to back wins to GM's trucks, nor could they have both a GM car and a GM truck win in the same year.

4- The reason why the Tundra won out is because it was the only half ton, daily driving truck in the competition. Thats it. They entered a one man contest, and won. On top of the fact that the Tundra is the first out of 3 attempts for Toyota to make a full sized half ton pick up. And on paper, they did a hell of a job making it, building it in the heart of pick up country, and using this new found Americanisim in a foriegn company.

Does GM have to be worried? Not really, but they shouldnt rest on there laurals like they did with cars. GM now has a focus and structure, more so then they had 5 years ago. With CAFE requirements going up, it might be just the wrong time for Toyota to get into this full size market. Lets not forget that the Sequia is also all new, and that will most likely win SUV of the year this year because there is no one else making any new ones.
I can already predict winners of MT's awards right now for 09.

SUVOTY 2009 Toyota Sequia. Toyota makes a Suburban fighter, and its better and Toyota. Its powerful V8 engine and IRS will outclass the suburban's live axle, allowing more interior room in the rear on top of Toyota's outstanding quality.
COTY 2009 Toyota Corolla. Not much out of new cars this year. A good contender will be the all new Mazda 6, and a possible winner. Everyone else seems to have blown thier respective load in the past 2 years. Camry, Aura, Malibu, Accord, Altima, CTS, C class and a few others. The G8 and Astra, both imports, might have a chance this year, but both in such small volumes that it wont make a huge heck of a difference.
TOTY 2009 Dodge Ram over the F150. Ram's brand new multi link coil spring rear will give better ride, its Ram-Box bed storage area is innovative, its standard dual exhaust is killer, it will also now have the most powerful V8 in its class, and it will get a 2 mode system shared with GM. The F150 gets a Ford make over, but nothing new. Interior upgraded, but no innovation. Power will remain with the tired 4.6/5.4 Mod motors, the weakest link in the lineup. We wont see any of the Boss motors till next year.

Same reason the rhonda idgeline did - they like carlike trucks that are nice on their fat-boomer-asses. really, the ridgeline? It is an odessy with a different body, just like the pilot. When did a minivan became a truck?

the ridgeline was such a flop. my friend worked for open road honda and was telling me they were having trouble giving those things away. he said it was cool but not even close to heavy duty by any means, even for a honda.
