well, make up your mind, is it the fault of the lawyers or the ACLU? as far as i know, the American Civil Liberties Union has doen far more good than harm, ever. it's not the lawyer's fault that he uses the law against the court system to win for his client, either.
i say it's the fault of the individuals that commit such crimes. far too many squeak through the system until they commit that one major crime, you know, the one that gets all of the headlines. like when Dateline teamed up with that internet-cop-wannabe company that setup the sting to lure the pedophiles out of their cages. i mean, what a cross-section of mainstream public there were... doctors, teachers, pedophiles with kids of their own, etc. that was an eye-opener.
that was disturbing. knowing that one of them will never see the light of day again is not very reassuring, however. while you have megan's law alerting us to the ones who have been charged, convicted and served their time, megan's law does nothing to protect children from the predators that have yet to strike, or those who have yet to be caught.
in most cases, the lawyers that get assigned the cases work for the public defenders office, either as a full-time employee or as a part-time pro-bono lawyer who works for another firm but takes one or two cases per month to try and resolve the backlog of cases for the PD. i can't fault the lawyers that take such cases. they are only doing their job. if you want, we can get rid of all of the lawyers and go straight from accusation to the lethal injection. of course, that would lead to innocent people dying. oh, yeah, you know if so many people who are guilty get set free, there have to be one or two innocent people who are found guilty, right? is that so far fetched an idea?
i still trace a line back to the people who commit crimes. if it weren't for them, we certainly wouldn't need the whole court system. you know, they call it the justice system. only thing is, there is no justice sometimes.
