				Nascar Qualifying...

Anyone else catch that sick crash by Michael McDowell? My jaw literally flung open. It's stuff like that that I don't wanna see. Could be me. Glad he walked away though.
180+mph straight into the wall and then flipping over multiple times. Yeah that makes me cringe.

the wall worked, and the new car worked.......
it may be slower, and it may be uglier and it may take a little while for the racing to be great again, but.......

no one can argue about driver saftey anymore.

 | Just what I thought. He walked away. A little while ago he would not have been as lucky.

 | I think they need to shorten the races. Yahoo Sports had a column about making the races shorter but keeping the big races the same distance. (Daytona 500, Coke 600, Brickyard 400 for example) The way I look at it, if you mess up early but you better get back up there quick. Should make for more aggressive racing, and that in turn is more entertaining. Given that from a Driver stand point it's more stressful and puts the cars more at risk, I think the sport would be better off with a shorter more aggressive race.

i dont think the races should be shorter, i think they should cut the field to around 35.
to do this they need to make the "nationwide" and truck series a true minor leauge....cup drivers should not be allowed to go down, and their drivers should not be allowed to move up untill they have a certain amount of accumulated points(over the course of a couple years, i think this is how supercross does it)...

this will keep the teams that just go out there to parade around and be in the way off the track, and it will keep all the series with their own names and will let fans take more interest in drivers from all 3 series

that's also true. I think the cup guys going to the nationwide/truck races hurts the sport. But I do like your idea of accumulating points in the minor series.

nationwide points arent a bad idea. but i really dont like the cup guys racing and taking nearly the entire top 10, EVERY single race. i cant imagine being in the nationwide series, and having all of your hero drivers (Jr, casey, edwards, mark martin, etc) show up every saturday and sweeping the top 10. must be frustrating as hell, and making it near impossible for smaller teams that would otherwise have good, competitive drivers that can place high....be stuck deep in the field and become little more then an 'also ran'. id let the cup guys race, but have them on an entirely different points system. they shouldnt be allowed to take the nationwide championship, and shouldnt take away spots from the regular nat. drivers.

I like the idea of only allowing x number of regular cup drivers in each truck/nationwide race. That way you get some "stars" there to help boost attendance and TV viewers, but not so many that they completely overrun the lower level guys trying to make a name for themselves.
