SR20DET powered 3rd gen
I've only seen a few pics on it, and can't seem to find it on the net. Does anyone have any info on it?

Yep its a baby skyline motor basically. Kid i went to school with has one in his 240 sx and thought it was the fastest thing in the world. From what ive seen they can be fast with the right work but near stock they run mid 14's

skyline motors are the RB family...so i dont think they really have much to do with each other
the SR20 does take boost very nicely though. commonly found in the 240sx as said above
oh and the battleship comments...SR20DET tells you more about the engine than LS1 does.

2.0L dual electronic(controlled) turbo. what does the sr mean? They are pretty nasty when i was in japan i had a buddy that had one in his Silvia S13 (1991 180sx Notchback) pushing 300+hp and those cars don't really way a thing. it was fun.

I've had more than a few SR's. I actually got bored, and viola, I now rock a Trans Am, lol. Stock they're really nice and reliable. It's a 2.0 turbo motor that was factory stock in 240s (known as Silvias) in Japan, and everywhere else in the world. All you needed was a few bolt ons (that you'd usually do when you first do the swap btw) to hit the 300 mark, and with a sub 2500lb car, it translates into good fun.
The "baby skyline" motor the person above may have been referring to was the ca18det, which was a 4cylinder (same architecture, 2 less cylinders) version of the rb20det (2.0 6 cyl found in the base rwd models of the first modern series Skyline).
So yea. SR20DET. Someone put one in an F body, and it was a drastic weight reduction. It was still live axle, but rather than having iron block/iron heads/heavy trans in the engine bay, there was an aluminum 2.0 turbo and a ridiculous amount of free space to work in. Hell, I have so much experience with SR's that I'd like to go that route  just to piss people off.

LS7 too. Titanium rods FTW and lighter.
Really, for the money spento n putting a SR20RBLMNOPLOL into an fbody, you could probably do an LS7 with very little moddification, make more power, and still pass emissions.

SR's go for $2500 for the engine and tranny set, along with the uncut harness. It'd cost at most $500 to mount it into an F body. A few bolt ons, and your well past the 350hp mark. An LS7 is $15,000. That's a lot of cheddar.

Don't forget to factor in new front springs & shocks, and all the time it will take for you (or the shop doing the swap) to fabricate everything and custom build wiring harnesses for you. That stuff will add up very fast, and I am willing to bet it would be well over $500.
Heck, I'm pretty sure I could buy an LS1 & trans and drop it into a 3rd gen for less cash and be way faster with or without mods.
Now, if you're gonna do it because you want to have something different, then go for it - but don't do it thinking that it's gonna be the most economical way to go fast.
(btw - in this post "you" is a general term...not saying that "you" = "mensaf")

^True enough. I always take into account me doing my own work. LS1 would definitely be the better approach. Hell, LS7 would be amazing. It's just different.
And by the way, I totally forgot about the new front springs/shocks. In all honesty, the only reason it's something even remotely appealing is because of the dramatic weight loss made to the car, and even moreso since it's in the front of the car. An LS1 still weighs 270lbs more than an SR20. I'm a little busy with a 240Z build at the moment, but this is something I'd definitely try out as a project some day.
You know. Just to be different. :P

the ls1 and t56 is 55lbs heavier then the rotary and 5speed in the RX7. Thats what i read on a conversion sight a while back.

I don't know about the T56, but the LS1 fully dressed with the pressure plate and flywheel is ~497.2lbs, with a flexplate it's 457.6lbs.
I searched last night and couldn't find any definite weight for the SR20's. Dunno about the rotaries either.
