Salvage yards...
does anyone know where there are any large salvage yards? I live in north haledon new jersey(right by wayne). any help would be great.

theres about 6 junk yards around my house wut r you looking for. I live in Winslow in south jersey

well if the price id right i'd part with my new project.. in a 97 black slp roller with the ls1 grey interior.

You cant do that in Jersey. If it has a junk yard title, it can never see the road again. If it has a salvage title, you can rebuild it, but the car will have to be inspected by someone from the DMV by appointment and the car will have to be 100% perfect. You'll spend more money rebuilding it than just buying one.

yea nd plus junk yards arnt really allowed to even sell a salvage car due to people abusing that privilage by stealing a car then gettin one from the junk yard just for its vin plate nd title

Man, if a car ends up in the salvage yard do u really want to fix it up?  Best bet is to find a low cost thats not abused on the forums, ebay, or any classified ads.

+1, Junk yard 98-02's are usually beyond repair. Who in their right mind would junk one if it was rebuildable? 
Best bet, LS1.com or better yet LS1tech.com, you can find a fixxer upper for DIRT!!!

On a similar note, I'm looking for junk yards that have an ECM and ECM plugs for an 88 Dodge Dakota. All the junk yard by me don't have it.

I think we need a sticky or a google earth map of junk yards in NJ and eastern PA.

i would like to buy one and fix it but like you guys were saying, any T/A thats in there is probably really messed up. i guess i will go with my original plan, which was to have my parents buy me one then give them money every month until it's paid off. Thanks for the input

Check on ebay with a seller named " fparts ".....they're in Bristol, PA....about 30 min from me in Morrisville, PA / Trenton, NJ area.

i'm going to have to buy a salvaged trans am because my parents cannot come up with the money to lay out for me. the only reason i would buy a salvaged trans am with some damage is because my brother (teds89iroc) and my dad know how to do body work and paint, pretty much everything. So it will save me some money fixing it ourselves.

I still think you're asking for trouble, but if thats what you want to do, make sure you find out why it has a salvage title. If its an accident, make sure the frame isnt warped, if its a flood, you'll be replacing everything, ECU, interior, all wiring, motor, ABS, etc. Be careful.

You'll definately be replacing everything. The yards often pop the locks so the doors can open. A car thats had stuff stripped has often had the doors left open for the rain and stuff to blow in.
Just ask around the various boards to find someone with a cheap roller that you can just drop an engine and/or trans into.
Now that I think about it, want to buy a 1988 Trans Am?

Buy a rolling chassis for 1500 then a drive train for what 4k at most. actually i have an 01 pullout with everything you need if you are mechanically inclinded.
