				NY/NJ License Plate Laws

Question: My camaro is registered in NY, with NY plates. I am contemplating adding a billet grille to the front end. of course, a license plate attached to a billet grille looks pretty lame and tacky. The car lives/drives mostly in NJ and rarely sees NY.

Can I get a ticket from NJ police for not having a front plate on a car that's registered in another state?

I know that NY requires 2 plates as does NJ. But can an out of state (NJ) police ticket me (in NJ) for that - considering the car does not have NJ plates???

Looking for any LEGAL clarification on this question. I have looked online but have yet to find any hard data. Thanks!!

ok, theres no exact law you will find. However, heres the breakdown..
NJ police CAN give you a ticket for not having your front NY plate on.
but, most of the time cops arent aware of this and once they see the rear NY plate, they move on.
Same goes for tinted windows basically.
One state can't techincally enforce another states equipment violation laws, yet when the vehicle is in another state, violations that violate safety concern ie tint, can be enforce by that other states police.
I didnt run my NY plate a long time, never had issues in NJ even with 5% tints on the side windows. On base in NY, i kept getting told i was missing my front plate, so thats only why i put it back on.

and my SS hasnt had a front plate on it since 2005 and will never have it on again.

			use one of these
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
Im using one and its pretty trick

now you see it

now you dont

fits the car pretty well, just need to make a little support for the back

and if you want you can just leave it retracted, if someone gives you a hard time about missing the plate, just say "oh, i forgot to flip it up". Probably get you out of a ticket

It'd be cooler if it were electric. You get pulled over and hit the switch right away. "what are you talking about officer?" lol

You can electrify it yourself if that's what you wanna do. I saw a video once of a mustang that had a motorized plate that slid though the lower bumper opening...it was pretty slick.

the "support" is that 'Z' shaped piece of aluminum. I just bent it up quick with a vise, its 1/8 x1 aluminum flat. The kit come with a piece of perforated steel straping to use, but it just looks like pure crap so i ddint use it,
