i'm pretty certain i've seen it on an lt1 fbody before.
aren't the gto wheels 120.65x5? people run bmw wheels of that pattern fine. might be some backspacing/offset issues but i'm 99% sure you could get it to work.
there is a possibility of messing up your studs though due to the .65 difference

If they are castings (which I'm pretty sure they are LOL) and they don't fit "right" then drag wheels are exactly what you should NOT use them for.

You had it backwards, the GTO wheels are 5X120mm, f-body is 5x120.65. That .65 doesn't seem like much until you see the lugs not centered in the holes, I tried 16 inch base Firebird wheels when I had my '04 GTO and would not have felt safe. The side loading on the studs will fatigue them, yet I still see GTO owners putting the f-body wheels on with slicks and thinking they're safe.

I have seen a few people take GTO wheels to machine shops to elongate the stud opening properly. So it is possible to make them sit correctly, however I still don't think it sounds like a very good idea. The castings are not exactly massive to begin with, taking material off would just make me nervous.

Just get a set of stock 16" wheels for the track.... there really cheap.

They accept conical seat lug nuts. If the holes get machined, you reduce the contact area where the lugs seat. This side loads the studs, further increasing the likelihood of stud breakage. It's a good way for someone to get hurt.

I understand what you are saying, you can machine the holes properly to accept the lugs. There are even many examples of aftermarket wheels with slots to compensate for various lug spreads that employ conical lug nuts.

The aftermarket wheels with slots (i.e. Cragar S/S) do not accept conical seat lugs. The spacers included with them allow 360 degrees of contact with the face of the spacer, and the longer shank of the lug that goes below the spacer keeps the wheel centered relative to the bolt circle. The GTO wheels cannot be machined to properly fit a car with 5x4.75 bolt pattern. By "properly" I mean in a manner which is safe and structurally sound.
