				Its that time again

Looking for a DD. The Caprice is not exactly working out for me. Kinda big, not super gas friendly, and still needs a few things. So it looks like I will A) Part it out and use what I can from it. Spindles can be used for brake kit for the 72, 350 roller motor is a great starting point for an engine for the 87, trans as well, the rear end is a nice swap to some of the civi Cappy owners looking for a quick boost in power.
That, or finish putting whatever parts I have for her in the car, and selling it.

Im looking at a few cars. One is the 04+ GP or the 98-03 GP's. I know of some problems, but anyone else have any info on which problems they might have? I know intake problems, but what should I look for? Also want to know info on the GTP models

My real focus keeps coming back to another third gen for a DD. Im looking for an 87-92 RS, Z28 or IROC with TPI or TBI auto car.
Ive tracked down a few cars (Martin/Christine sorry I didnt text you guys back) and a few in the price range.

GTP doesnt have the intake problems that the N/A 3.8 has...it was an intake gasket problem on them, fixed by a revised gasket i believe. it would cause coolant to leak into the intake. other weak point is the transmission, but its hit or miss, kinda like a 10 bolt...might last forever, might die in 50k miles. i took mine up to 130K+ before it finally **** the bed.
GTP gets better gas mileage than the GT as long as you keep your foot out of it, due to hte final drive ratio and boost bypass valve...2.93 in hte GTP, 3.29 in the GT/SE.

I don't know much about the cars you have listed but why are you going with a larger car? Why not a subcompact for better gas mileage and DD duties?

i checked it out, looks as if its been in a serious accident, they did a good job of covering it up.

I have DD'd a GTP since 2000. Great car. As Matt said, the intake has a leaking issue, the front valve cover leaks on the exhaust manifold (recall covers this) transmissions are hit or miss. You can also have water leaking through the HVAC system if a gasket deteriorates at the cowl seal.
But I love the car. Absolutely love it.

The great unknown (in my opinion) is the supercharger oil. GM does not say if you ever need to change it, and it's not in the service manuals. If it has never been changed you may end up buying a car with toasted S/C bearings.

Al, if you have any other questions shoot me a PM and I'd be more than happy to tell you what I can.

yeah, the S/C oil is something people probably never think about. usually youll be able to hear the bearings rattling if theyre bad, and im pretty sure they arent a tough fix anyway

But I concur, not a tough fix.

Mines OK... Its a canaidan car, now has a drop in k&n, 3" DP w/u bend delete, 3.4 pulley and a tune... runs well... but It eats transmissions like crazy..

I wanted one, but this woudl really be a cheap deal to get me through for another year. I think ill fix the heater core, and just drive it till next spring when I will start teh process to order a Camaro.

Al, I know you want my 3rd gen. I know my commute to your area is more than yours. I almost pass by your B body daily (I look for it, heh). Being tomorrow is supposed to be nice Im taking my Z to work so I can replace the blower motor and get an oil change.
Ill try to stop in like I said. I love Her but hate Her and if the price is right... 1 of 3,038 made in 92, then the Med Metallic Quasar Blue and the factory Bose system.... You know you want to atleast make an offer If ya want the blisters, you'll have to fight Kat cause he has em and the stocker hood is scrapped.
