				Crossing guards

Do they have any actual legal precedence to stand in the road and direct traffic? Most of em are just old guys with stop signs and the ones around me do a royal job at screwing up traffic. |

Tell me this again after you have a couple of young kids of your own who have to cross a street with traffic. Ever notice the attention span of a grammar school kid? Ever wonder what it's like to have to see your kid after he/she's been hit by a car? I have. My 21 year old still lives with some of the results of being hit. And no, he wasn't at fault. Have a bit of patience and tolerance.

nope, they sure dont, they must obay all the traffic laws as far as crossing the street as well. they do take it upon them selves to try and relieve traffic and they usually suck at it

No they cannot direct traffic. I dont know where your from but the guy on main street in williamstown always stops me so he can let a whole line of traffic off of church and poplar street in front of me, and no there are no kids there that need assistance hes just taking it upon him self to let them go. Im always running late for school too so I just lay on the horn.

The fastest way to make a nice person really nasty is to be irresponsible around their kid. Just be patient.

To the best of my knowledge, the ONLY people allowed to DIRECT traffic are police officers. Crossing guards are allowed to STOP traffic, but they are not supposed to DIRECT traffic. Yes, they are supposed to step out and stop traffic only when it is safe to do so.

I don't mean that I speed through there intersections at all. I stop far away from where they are, and the ones around me are just there to let traffic out of schools and what not. Just curious about their "power" being as they suck at directing traffic. Thats all. Geez.

there's one old lady by my middle school that has been there forever. She's an AMAZING crossing guard. Keeps traffic flowing nicely and everything. all of them should be like her. Even dances in the intersection, its funny to watch her work

The one old guy does not realize or does not care about the amount of traffic he backs up. Ugh, and he has some stupid ass lit up stop sign. One day, one day....

Crossing guards are allowed to control traffic and stand in the street. Around here they even get forms to fill out so that you can get a ticket if you act like a tool around them.

if i see a crossing guard, i walk to the other side of the intersection. most here are good though and just hold traffic for a person to safely cross the road. they only do it when the pedestrian light indicates "walk" so its not like they are stopping traffic and causing havoc.

In my town they are hired by the school district and are usually supported by the police, but are otherwise good at what they do and only stop traffic for kids in school zones.

This argument reminds me of the time a cop threatened to give me a ticket because I refused to wait for a crossing guard to cross me at an intersection in High School.
If ya wanna know what really gets on my nerves pertaining to said situation its when bus drivers bs with parents at bus stops holding up traffic like everyone has all the time in the world.

If the 30 second conversations between bus drivers and parents are enough to throw off your personal time table, you should look into some better time management techniques.
With so many fears about the strangers out there, I know I would feel more comfortable if I was a parent with a kid on that bus and I knew who was driving.

^OMG that's such a pia when they do that or when they have to wait for the one kid who lives at the end of the street and he just takes his sweet old time getting on the bus. In my area there's a bus stop about every 50 yards or so that's a major pia especially when your late to class
