sad 2010 camaro story

My girlfriends uncle pre-ordered a 2010 camaro rs/ss 2ss all black with cyber grey stripes and a ground effects package about a year and a half ago. He has been waiting very patiently for this car, so he could finally ditch his jetta and get back into a Camaro. Well, His car finally arrived at the dealership in Brick yesterday, and when he sat down with the salesman to work out all the final paperwork etc, the salesman informed him they were tacking on an additional $5,000 markup. Of course her uncle said no way was he paying that, (It brought the price to just about $50,000) and that he wouldn't pay any more than MSRP, so the dealer basically told him too bad go home. It's pretty sad that a dealership is going to try and rip off a customer just because they are excited about their vehicle.

Anyway, He found a dealership in New York that promised not to mark it up and he's placing another order, should take another twelve weeks. It's a real shame though, he's had one or more of each generation.

That would be illegal and the dealer would be in a breach of contract. This isnt the first time I have heard this about the Camaro. They are marking them up after they get in.
Contact a lawyer asap. Get that car in you gf's uncle's hands.
And lets hope that they are one of the dealers that get shut down.
Put the dealer's name up here so we know who to stay away from.

Brick Chevy...hrm...on 88? Might be ****in Pine Belt, ****in scumbags. Wouldnt surprise me.
I cant think of any other Chevy dealers in Brick.

But yes, the dealer is in breach of contract. This came up on CZ28 not to long ago with the same story, and even same mark up...disgracefull.
Dealers are treating this car as a ultra rare 30k or less production car.

If he signed a contract when he made the original order, that contract is binding on both parties.

Had the guy changed his mind, the dealership could have dragged him into court.

From what you've said, the dealership changed it's mind and has attempted to alter the terms of the contract.

If he can produce a signed document, and pay an attorney for ~ 1/2 hour of work, the car's probably his at the originally-agreed price.

Talk to the dealer manager, then the dealer owner. If they won't talk to you or won;t help, then go on to GM itself. **** their day up.

What is the dealer so none of us go there?

If he didn't get anything in writing stating 'To be sold at MSRP' or something signed with the price listed, then it's not illegal.

Wrong, but legal.

man, thats beat but everyone here is right though, if he signed the contract then the dealership would have no other choice than to sell the car for the already set price.

and i'd say the dealership is probably defelice, pine belt is technically in lakewood, and their commercials call it lakewood too.

i am not surprised. i would also bet it's pinebelt on 88 in lakewood (just outside of brick, close enough to throw a stone). it's sad, but also part of the reason why i wait. they will start selling them under MSRP before too long (remember the GTO?). it sucks for GM to have customers like me, but i know the dealers and all of their tricks. it's best to wait until you have them over a barrel to start negotiations.

Yeah that's his car (or at least was) with the ground effects and all. The manager didn't want to negotiate whatsoever, he just told them they could auction it for the extra 5k no problem. After that they just gave him the down payment back. Unfortunately the contract only said the vehicle would be sold at "fair market value." If you all were to go there and make a big scene I bet you he would be in for that as well haha that would be awesome.

Damn it I dont think I could do that seeing as how the parts manager knows me and gives me wholesale on everything...

You guys could borrow the truck and winch a vet out into the middle of 88 if you want

I understand that GM can't tell the dealerships what to sell the cars for they can only give a MSRP. The dealerships can sell them for whatever they want. It's too bad that some dealers don't realize that the more they sell the better off they will be. In this economy some dealerships are still trying to screw the buyer out of as much money as they can, rather than sell as many vehicles as they can. And people wonder why dealers are being shut down?!

ok, if you guys are serious about the cruise-in, i think it's only fair that we get the media involved. it would be cool to see defelice get some negative press and it might strong-arm some of the other dealers in the area (you can spit on 5 chevy dealers in the brick/toms river/point pleasant area) into knowing that they can't get away with this.

the media will only get involved if we make a big splash. if fewer than ten people are actually willing to go, then i wouldn't call anyone. since our meets are ~15-20 people on a regular basis, i wouldn't think we'd be able to garner that kind of support. i could be wrong...
