85 Trans Am wont run
I cant figure out whats wrong with the car. I put new gas in the tank thinking that the five year old gas in there would be causing it to not run, but it still doesnt work. its got a new fuel pump, and filter. it will start up but as soon as i give it gas it cuts the engine out. any ideas?

Could be a number of things. Check your fuel pressure, also if you ran the bad gas through thr carb it may be gummed up and in need of a rebuild..

Given the level of detail you provided, I can definitely say that something is malfunctioning. Recommend you fix it.
(some more detail, like what mods and whether it's injected or carburetor, might help...)

I'm 90% sure this is a friend of mine...Ya'll though MY T/A was bad.... how about you wait till I get over there to look at it. I told you already, its probably the TPS or the MAF. It could also be the timing, or it just needing a tune up. When I have time (wed) I'll stop over with my timing light and multi-meter and we'll figure it out. but in the mean time get the car registered and insured, cause without being able to drive it I can't test it under load.

So this is an injected car then? Definately sends the line of diagnosis in a slightly different direction.

its a TPI 305 supposedly... So that tells me that the engine doesn't belong in that car, know the kid he bought it from, its a hack job + some. I'm going to have to go over every inch of wire and test the signal from a quite few sensors. to figure out wtf is going on...actually bout to get on the phone with him now

....was a carbie car. has the 86 accessories on it, with a TPI top end, can't even start to understand the issue because the fuel pump gets no power. on top of that, the wire harness is beyond hack-job the GFX are not right. the car its self used to be white and now its purple. it ain't worth the $110 he spent on it

Let me preface this by saying I've never worked on a TPI setup before so this is purely a guess.
If it was a carb car, the fuel pressure may be way too low for an injected setup. Is it an EFI fuel pump?
