Amen. Without their sacrifice we wouldn't have the freedoms we have today, now if we could just get the idiots in Washington to keep our freedoms(but that's another post for another time).

Thanks to the troops for everything you do.

Never Mind lol. I really don't know what i wanna do either Air Force or On Top of a Hummer On the Gun. But i really have to look into it. I have to loose some weight before i choose anything. My mom hates the idea but its always in the back of my head. Like i could just think of my camaro and boom then i start day dreaming of being on top of a hummer and shooting stuff. And I know its nothing like call of duty but still....

well i speak for many of use here when i say that it means a lot to know we are still appreciated.

92camaro... i wanted to join when i was 17/18 just outta high school, never did because i didn't think i could do the physical part. almost a decade later i still wanted to so i joined. I was technically overweight when i first signed, but that changed fast lol. And as for Army vs AF vs marines/navy etc., think about that alot, consider duty stations(not ever guaranteed), length of deployments, quality of food at dining facilities(AF is best) lol, and also, unfortunately "Gunner" is not a specific job(MOS). Im an 88M, motor transport operator, aka truck driver. Yet since January, ive been up in the turret on a .50 cal M2. I love it, it is fun and exciting, but keep in mind also, action is no where near like in the movies/games. Yes i have fired my weapon in combat but not often considering the over 250 missions we ran. And lastly, Humvees are a thing of the past, we got bigger and better. an 1151 Humvee(newest fully armored version) stands no chance against IEDs around here. You WILL get deployed no matter which branch you join, and it isnt easy. Being active duty military is a whole different lifestyle all together.

Yeah they dont even use HMMWVs outside the wire around here anymore. And while being a gunner is pretty cool, it is a huge responsibility when it comes down to supporting your team. I am a truck mechanic, but I go on convoys very often to support the movements if anything breaks down, but I also do everyone elses job, and being a Marine, that means I am an infantryman.

just make sure you think long and hard about it. its not like the movies once you get there. im in the airforce and while you might think the marines and army on the front lines are the only ones doing the work (we all appreciate you guys) i know they appreciate the jets that i work on keeping an eye on them from up top. we all play our part and every branch supports the others

I'm not saying anything that Air-Force guys don't do anything. Just i think i would be best in the Marines. And i know its nothing like the movies.

Thanks

Don't be thankful for them, according to some they're no better or valuable than burger flippers at a burger joint. They're just every day people that aren't hero's. We shouldn't thank them since they're only doing the job they signed up for....so they're meaningless....

...and yes this post is heavily laced with sarcasm.

They don't make HMMWVs anymore. And hummers are the civilian version. And they are far from badass when they roll over a mine or an IED, hence the reason they don't go outside the wire anymore. The HMMWV was never really meant to be a combat contact vehicle, it was supposed to replace the old Jeeps to be a "base runner" so to speak, a quick means of transportation. But some idiot decided that they work well with 4,000 lbs of armor with another 2,000 lb turret on the roof, and then add the 5 passengers with all of their gear, weapons, ammo, food, and comm equipment. All of that extra weight turns these "bad boys" into low riders and start breaking everything that makes this truck move.

But its a good thing these things are easy to work on. Because all they are good for is keeping our maintenance bays look busy.

Middle Eastern food? If thats what you are talking about, isn't it amazing? That is one of the main things that I miss about living there.

anysoldier.com
I found this website (check it out!) and began to put together a care package to send over. After discussing it with several people, I got motivated and am arranging a large scale project. I have compiled a list of all of the items requested by the servicemen and women, and am sending it out to my whole school. I am then collecting donations, packaging them up, and sending it all over there. I am doing it under the name of my fraternity, so it is basically school endorsed, and I am hoping to get a lot!

thanks all...although i havent deployed yet, im here in korea, just incase the north ever grows a set and decides to invade. i am the gunner in my asv. (yes we have them over here, along with 1151's). the asv is pretty badass, im behind a mk19, and a 50 cal, and theres a 249 mounted outside the turret. i have been the gunner in the 1151 and its not too bad. i havent been on any actual combat missions like some of the other guys here have, only training. but being a gunner is a hugeeeee responsiblity. no matter what happens you have to stay in the turret and keep the rest of your team alive. im an MP so we operate in 3 man teams, driver, gunner, and team leader. so if the gunner goes down, there arent too many extra people floating around

like i mentioned before, this is the HMMWV's "replacement", the OSH-KOSH M-ATV.

They have these already in country for field testing, but i have not seen them go out for combat yet.

and yes, they do have a turret optional up top, just like other military vehicles. The one here on our FOB which i took pics of(still on my camera) has a turret with the frag 7 kit upgrades.
