Need a hand with timing/idle issues on a sbc

Anyone near sayreville area than doesnt mind stopping by tom to give me a hand and has a timing gun/vacuum gauge? Im in a tough spot and cant seem to get this thing to idle right without dieing. I think either vacuum leak bad timing or valves are to tight.

I got you on some beer just turned 21 so im excited to be able to do that now haha.

Let me know thanks

Yea im leaving to go back home(NC) tom night. No more time to fool around with it but yea its the 383, I broke it in at 2500 rpms for 30 minutes but cant get it to idle lower than 1200. The guy who built the motor said the valves are perfect, so im going after either a vacuum leak or a carb/timing issue.
Hei dist with vacuum advance.

Do you have a choke on your carb?

Have you tried to adjust it with the engine up to temperature? Or just right after start up?

Yea it needs a good amount of time, decent amount of tools, and a little more money. I was a fool to think I could come up here and do it all in a week with no help.

I ended up doing Air Force Reserve. My job title is going to be a jet propulsion mechanic! Kinda excited to say the least
