Operation : Heart Transplant
Looking good so far. I have the water pump to install, and the rear main seal, and it's time to slide her home. been keeping it under wraps for a little while now to make sure my words of finish time stuck this time. This is NOT the worked motor, this is a replacement motor, which means the car remains auto for this season, and by next year I can have the worked motor dropped in to have some fun time! This engine had less then 80K on it, so I couldn't pass it up. The top end from my car will be going on it since I cleaned, and smoothed out and casting imperfections form the last time I had it off. I will NOT be using my light weight push rods and race lifters in this motor, they will be saved for the worked motor.
All the gaskets were replaced, including Oil pan, oil pick up tube, front plate, and front seal. a high oil pressure kit was installed for a little insurance. Other then that the engine will be just the same as the one in it already. new Valve guide seals.
Here's a side by side comparison of a freshened up cylinder head, compared to one just taken off.
Here's me valve grinding, had some fun with that for a while.
I coated the head gaskets with copper seal for two reasons, 1. to seal any imperfections, and @. to help deter hot spots ,and distribute heat more evenly. The gaskets already came with a sealer on top, but a little insurance can't hurt.
Here's the engine before the gasket was removed. By the time I was done with it you could almost see yourself in it ( not literally) The head bolt holes were cleaned with a tap, removed any excess oil and crud to ensure the torque specs were as accurate as possible.
And finally after torquing the heads to spec ( 37ft. lbs - 130* - 30*) they are awaiting the intake, and to be dropped in the car.

I put my oil pressure kit in there, she runs at 85 PSI just like the kit said. I don't have to worry about oil pressure with this one now lol.

yup, originally runs 55-60. Kit was for my worked motor im buildign, but $30 a kit, I can spare an get another one. my last engine went bad from a bearing failure, so I don't need that happening again.

What's in the kit? Seems like too much pressure for a stock v6. Sorry for the hijack, too.

no hijacking at all, its an honest question. all it is is a small shim that goes behind the oil pressure spring to give it more tension. Our oil casting's are anemic, it's really the only flaw besides bad head flow castings.

That filter is soooo easy to change, there is a ton of room in front of the 3.8 in a 4th gen engine bay.

ONce you take the A/C system out, we have tons of room, plenty for a turbo setup.

With that kind of pressure, do you need a large sump pan? Seems like it'll keep all the oil up and out of the pan with that much.

Its not high volume, just high pressure, the amount recieving into the pump and bearings is the same, just under a higher pressure

Im trying to finish a couple stupid things, and everything literally was breaking in my hands tonight. the trans shift cable broke inside itself, so now I have to get a new one, and the fan assembly support broke on the passenger sid, so its cant stay up anymore. and I see a small amount of oil on the trans inspection plate, so im at a loss of why. maybe ill switch back to the 55 psi, and see if that makes a difference.
Im so pissed right now, Im just ready to sell it and move on to my 3000gt and the ranger.
