Thinking about joining the Reserves

Getting bored with being just a civilian and have been thinking about going back into the military as a reservist. I did 4 years active in the Marines and EAS'd in 2007, I'm IRR until 2011, and my MOS in was 0656 Tactical Data Network Specialist (Network and Server administration).

I would appreciate any information on drill schedules, units in our area, and any kind of bonuses I could get coming in as prior enlisted.

Thankss

you could join the 177th if you want to go Air National guard. Im guard but im a full time technician. you would have to ask one of the recruiters but critical career fields have a 20k enlistment bonus, im not sure what you would get as prior enlisted

6th Motor Transport Battalion is in Red Bank. That is my current Marine Corps reserve unit. We have pretty much every MOS here. They are also building a new reserve center on Fort Dix, not sure what type though. Also in Trenton I believe there is an artillery/mortar unit.

I finished my time in the 465th in Bristol, PA. They're a transporation unit of Hemmits, that transport ammunition for the 82nd and 101st. If they go anywhere, the 465th isn't far behind. Since the madness of 9/11, they've been deployed to Ft Bragg, Germany, Iraq twice, and rumor has it they will be sent to Afghanistan before the end of 2010.

Being in the 465th is deceptively easy - on the one hand, your mission it to drive an 8 ton vehicle full of explosives. On the other hand, you have to drive an 8 ton vehicle full of explosives through countryside full of people who want to **** you up in the worst way, and your only protection is some thin steel, an assistant driver with an M-16, and a gas pedal.

The 465th is a unit that has GREATLY matured over the last few years, as many units have, once tested in battle. Before that it was a cake job, in a small town, with rusting equipment, and unmotivated leadership. Show up, PMCS, put some miles on the vehicles, then park them and go home.

Wanted this - , but ended up with this - for free. Can't argue with free.

My friend was Navy and has been doing reserves here in NJ lately but he works down in DC. I can check with him for any connections if you want.
