I finished my time in the 465th in Bristol, PA. They're a transporation unit of Hemmits, that transport ammunition for the 82nd and 101st. If they go anywhere, the 465th isn't far behind. Since the madness of 9/11, they've been deployed to Ft Bragg, Germany, Iraq twice, and rumor has it they will be sent to Afghanistan before the end of 2010.
Being in the 465th is deceptively easy - on the one hand, your mission it to drive an 8 ton vehicle full of explosives. On the other hand, you have to drive an 8 ton vehicle full of explosives through countryside full of people who want to **** you up in the worst way, and your only protection is some thin steel, an assistant driver with an M-16, and a gas pedal.
The 465th is a unit that has GREATLY matured over the last few years, as many units have, once tested in battle. Before that it was a cake job, in a small town, with rusting equipment, and unmotivated leadership. Show up, PMCS, put some miles on the vehicles, then park them and go home.
