need advice on front skinny selection

going to be ordering skinnies pretty soon and was wondering if i should go with a bias ply or a radial type tire. I will be running M/T drag radials in the back. Iv heard that your not sopposed to mix the two types but wasnt sure. If i go bias ply i will probably be running the m/t front runners and if i go radial ill probably go with the m/t radial s/r. the bias ply is probably way lighter not to mention cheaper so i was just wondering on what you guys recommend. These will be driven on the street. Not a whole lot but they will see street time. thanks!

And I drove around with my radials out back and Adam's bias plys up front, I did not notice a problem...

Yea, and honestly I took the turn at the end of the track a bit fast a few times and did not notice anything crazy... Adam had me all worried about the tires being all over, but he is a lame.

I am not sure how they will like daily driving to shows and what not though..

i would not run a bias ply on the street except to drive the car to and from the track.

ehh besides going to the track... the most they will see is going to local shows... ill probably pick up a set of ws6 or something mid summer for shows... till then ill probably go on the street lites

Have you given any thought to having a set of nice street wheels being narrowed up front?


I think that would look better than a set of drag wheels slapped on there.

ok ... I don't recommend bias ply front's for the street because they tend to be very soft and would wear out extremely fast not to mention they're not DOT approved. Most don't have much tread and definitely not enough to drive in the rain

yea iv read that they wear out fast on the road... but i do believe the front runners are dot approved...

With the race car, you should prob get the Saturn a hitch. Therefor you can have a support vehicle.

Get a radial tire.

On the top end the car will start to sway or walk on you with mixed tires.

I run radials in the front and bias ply in the back without a problem even though most people say you shouldn't. The car does walk a little up top, but nothing crazy. Oh, and bias ply definitely sucks on the street, so if you want to use them mostly to go to shows, radials are the way to go.

^^ thanks... yea the ones i was going to get are the sportsman fronts... they are 4 ply not bias ply and they are like only 1lb lighter than the radials... so im just going to go with the radials... the real bias ply fronts are like 8lbs ligher per tire then the radial... but im not going to run them cause they arent dot... for 2 extra lbs on the front id rather have the stability of the radial.. thanks for the help guys

I run M/T ET Streets in the back with Hoosier Drags up front and have no problems. If you plan on racing in any "Street Car" classes or plan on street driving it go with radials all around. Good Luck.

check the load rating on the sr's cause i have them on my 01 s10 and they are only rated to around 960lbs max. i only have a 2.2 4 banger in my truck at this time and with max pressure for the load rating they still look like they are low on air. im gonna eventually switch them out to the sportmans bias tires when i swap out to the 383 since their load ratings are much higher.

i think the "dont ever mix them" rule is more for a bias ply rear tire with a full size front street radial. i dont think the skinnies will really create the wandering issue that a full size radial will...

yea i thought about the load ratings... but they cant be any worse than the VW tires all the guys are running on the fronts. I couldnt find the ratings on MT's website or summits so i just said f-it ill give it a shot. They are ordered and sopposed to be delivered tomm. Dont forgot radial tires are supposed to bulge on the bottom when there is a load on them.

960 per tire... puts you at 1920 for the front end...

just got mine in... they are rated 990lbs at 35psi max per tire so that puts me at 1980lbs for the front end... i should be ok with that... right? I mean they cant be weaker than the VW tires people are running... they looks sweeet too
