Exhaust opinions?
Hey guys, i'm in the market for a new exhaust system for my 98 Camaro V6 and I just need some opinions on what to get. I did some browsing on youtube of set ups on the car and gathered a few things..
First off, any suggestions of a good shop around South Jersey? My friend tells me "Autobahn" is a nice place to start.
For sound, I want something that doesn't sound like a rock rattling in a tin can. Something smooth, loud, and consistent. I hate the sound of say.. Loudmouths on the V6, when revved up they sound like crap IMO.
I really like the sound of this

As for exhaust, I am looking for a cat back system that won't break my bank.
Input would be nice, especially if you've had experience with a nice set up!
Thanks

I had a Built 98 V6 Firebird with just about every mod I could put on it at the time and the best sounding exhaust I found on it was headers, aftermarket y-pipe without a cat, 3 inch S pipe, 3 inch I pipe into a Flowmaster American Thunder Muffler and 3 1/2 inch tips.. The thing sounded nasty especially when I had the built motor in with the cam.. As long as I kept it under 3k rpms you couldnt tell it was a V6. No matter what exhaust system you get on the 3.8 above 3k the car is going to have rasp..

From what little videos I could find on the TSP Rumbler, they sounded pretty nice
Which pipes should I get, X Y or H?

you dont have dual exhaust, it just has 2 tail pipes. you have a y pipe from the manifolds, a single pipe from there on back, and 2 pipes after the muffler.
performance wise, x is probably better than a h pipe, but there is not a lot of room under the car for a lot of crazy pipes, most of the time, dual exhaust kills the ground clearance on 3rd or 4th gens.

Thanks for clearing that up for me TA, would an H or X Pipe give me the most ground clearance?

Just stick with a Y-pipe.. I made over 450hp out of my V6 with The combo I told you about in the 1st post.. Its not that hard to make power without breaking the bank on exhaust work..
Another good site is www.camarov6.com

Lets Educate you this first photo the front of the car is on the left side of the photo notice the two exhaust manifold pipes go into the y pipe then a single pipe, next into the muffler then it spilts into two tail pipes. This is not a true dual exhaust.
Y pipe setup
True dual with x pipe
True dual H pipe
with a Y pipe exhaust my favorite is a flowmaster 80 series nearly everything else is either to quite or very raspy.
If you go true dual this is also my favorite

my friend with a 2001 v6 camaro had a slp loudmouth for a year...sounded great to 3k, after that, just plain raspy and terrible...got sick of the noise, added a walker muffler to the set up and that odd combo sounded solid... nice rumble at idle and decent (milder) sound in higher rpms (got rid of the the raspyness)

*shock paddles*
Yeah, I just necro'd this.
Anyway..
I'm considering the Borla XR-1s for this now, what can you guys tell me about this set up to make it sound great without really killing my bank? I looked at some youtube videos of them and have to say, they're one of the best sounding sets i've heard yet.

I suggest going to Rodney's performance exhaust in EHC right off of Philly ave....NOT PETERSONS. Let him know Scotts friend Jeff sent ya, should hook you up with anything you want custom wise. He did my exhaust. Also our cars, no matter what you put on them, will sound like **** if you don't put on pace setter headers.
