problems with my car...need suggestions
I have a chevy car that is under the bumper to bumper warranty still. Its been at 2 different dealers. one for 4 business days. they called and said the car is fixed, i came down and picked it up. It wasnt fixed and the dealer was closed by the time i called back. I decided to bring it to a different dealer and its been at this one for 13 business days. They arent able to fix it and have a gm engineer coming to look at it. What are my options as far as lemon law? i bought the car in jan with 16k on it and it still has a year and 3 months left on the bump to bumper warranty. I've been in contact with gm customer service because the first dealer was claiming my gm upgrade kit wasnt factory backed part and the second dealer didnt want to give me a loaner.

Don't have much experience with them.
There are a few PIs similar to your issue. You should be able to find these on google. (PIs are similar to service bullitens)
PIP4820: Low Turbocharger Boost Pressure Or Possible DTC P0299
PIP4720A: Intermittent Low Power After Turbo Upgrade Kit Installation
PIP4559: DTC P2227 After Turbo Upgrade Kit Installation - keywords accessory air boost cal calibration cel charge control cooler driveability DTC ECM engine gas leak inf low MAF MAP MIL PCM performance power
PIP4520: Low Boost / Power And/Or DTC P0299 Or P0101 - keywords actuator boost CAC charge control cooler driveability DTC ECM engine gas lnf low maf MIL reduced reducedpwmde SES wastegate

there are no more engine codes, the dealer replaced the ecu, maf, t-map, map, some other sensors, o2 sensor, charge piping and intercooler. still has the same problem, thats why i'm curious is there is a lemon law or anything since its still under warranty and been down for 17 business days for the same problem. gm is sending an engineer too look it over

If the second Dealer has a GM rep coming down to check out the car, that is the best you can hope for. It means the Dealership has hit a brick wall with all they can do and now it is up to Chevy to try to correct it. As long as you have a loner, don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
If the GM rep can't fix the problem, you may very well have a case for a buy back from them, so hang in there and be very polite because they can do more for you at this time then you can do to them if you start to get pushy.

They chucked some funny parts at it if the only issue is no boost.

did anyone bother looking at the turbo as well as the boost control solenoid. sounds like it's one of those two things...did the turbo sound like it was spooling and you just weren't getting boost or you have no turbo what so ever....turbo may be no good

My g.f.'s G5 GT is the biggest P.O.S. I have ever seen...
I have never seen a car that has had so many problems and failures..
We are on our 3rd dealer with fixes and still fighting over fixes that should have been taken care of last year
Both door handles, stereo, 4 coils, 4 fuel injectors, front sway bar links, front driver side control arm, both front hubs, trunk latch with sensor because the trunk ajar would constantly go off and trip the alarm.
center mount brake light leaking, spoiler leak, condensation in the front headlights, Knock sensor, cooling fan resistor,
Transmission was replaced because it lost 3rd gear
Caught them trying to shim the PCM with a piece of folded up cardboard because they thought it would desensitize the PCM with misfires for which it is currently in the shop for again and getting the cylinder head and few other things replaced..
When they replaced the transmission they forgot to add 2 quarts of tranny fluid and never put the cap back on the transmission..
Easy to tell it was low on fluid just by the way it was shifting..
It has been a 2 month fight over the misfires because it is just under the amount of misfires that it takes to set off a code..
So I installed a SS boost pillar with an aeroforce interceptor just so I could monitor and video the misfires, long and short term fuel trims.
GM Customer service is not any better because all they do is constantly give you a new case manager so that every time you talk to them you have to constantly remind them of the specific problem you are having..
Then you have to fight with them and the dealer over a loaner car when they want to keep the car for a few days..
I definitely know what you are going through and then some

Don't bother asking for any advice about Cobalts on here. They are throw away cars!
But in all seriousness I also feel your pain but have been somewhat luckier about my problems. Cracked fuel line on my fuel pump. Did not get the recall while some did and they wont pay for my work since I did it before the recall came out.. Also numerous power steering replacements and no fix. I could turn a steamroller with less effort...

You mean GM isn't better after taking billions of our dollars?? NO WAY! NOTHING has changed regarding how their customer service is run, NOTHING.

They are POS throw away cars. Anyway, did your car ultimately get a recall? If so and it was for the exact problem you paid out of pocket for then you can get reimbursed. Keep calling GM Customer Care line until you get someone that knows WTF they're talking about.

i hate to say this but all the things mentioned above was a little bit of a driving force behind me buying my legacy gt, and i am glad i did, and Subaru of America are awesome for customer service, when i dropped mine off at the dealer for service they didn't want to give me a loaner, i called subaru in cherry hill and they covered my rental for up to 5 days, i would have fought for more if i had to but i thought that was great customer service in my book

Every manufacturer has its problems. My older brother has a dead Subaru Forrester sitting in his driveway with a blown engine. My younger brother has a Honda Prelude that burns a quart of oil a week, the doors drop down when you open them, the ABS doesn't work and the suspension is shot.
As for the problem with this Cobalt, troubleshooting gets tougher once it has been modified and it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't a wiring issue(due to the mods) or possibly a "trick" the previous owner did.

its modified with gm's own parts(gmstage one) and an exhaust. so that shouldnt effect the trouble shooting

It all depends WHO did the work and do you have any receipts. If a GM Dealer installed that upgrade, then they are the ones who should fix it.
If it was done by the Nonothing Garage or someones back yard, you may be s**t out of luck.

a gm dealer did it, thats why i bought the kit. The kit is 100% covered under the warranty too...unless you did the install. but if you did the install and 2 years went by, but your still under the powertrain warranty and something goes wrong with the kit..they're still responsible. they just wont pay for anything that you f up from the isntall. The engineer said today that i have a cracked intercooler. the dealer told me its from obvious accident damage...which is bs because i checked the intercooler over becfore i dropped it off because i thought it was that. If there is obvious damage...it was cause in the 2 1/2 weeks that they've had it. also, there are a whole bunch of threads on cobaltss.net about cracked intercoolers on stock cars...let along gms1 cars. i'm going to inspect the car tomorrow morning.

More so that it took a GM "engineer" to figure out a cracked IC.

ecu,gms1,maf,intercooler piping and some other sensors. no to mention both dealers i brought it to claimed to have pressure tested the piping and it checked out okay. I dont think the ic is cracked...i think the bypass valve is stuck open cause the turbo doesnt even trry to spool...and if the bypass valve is stuck open....then the air would go through the intake and bypass the turbo

Yeah it definitely will, why don't you just work on the car yourself? Seems like you are getting the run around. That or take it to a reputable performance shop that deals with boosted applications. Should be cake for them.
