[Rant]

Going into work this morning, I'm driving down a 35 mph street with a school zone. It has flashing lights to alert you to slow down to 25 mph etc. I always slow down for it though I tend to see many don't. I have a small Toyota Corolla tailgaiting me pretty good through the whole thing. They even dared to drift into the oncoming lane to see if they could pass or why I was going slow or something like that. Anyways, a crossing guard is up at the intersection with their stop sign out letting people cross this busy road. There is a large van already stopped there. I let off the gas and begin coasting up to a stop. The SOB has the balls to tailgate me even worse than before! Half looking in my mirror and half looking at what's ahead of me, I brake check him pretty hard. I watch as they jab the brakes and throw their arm across the passenger seat in front of what appears to be a small child! I then roll up and stop behind the van while the Toyota keeps its distance. Crossing guard waves us on and off I go. THE SOB TURNS TO GO TO THE SCHOOL!!!!! This idiot was tailgating me through the school zone that their kid goes to!!!!! With their kid in the car!!!!! WHAT THE ****!?!?!

Are people seriously this dumb? What if I was so distracted by them tailgating me that I didn't stop for the crossing guard and hit a kid going to school? What is wrong with people? I should have gotten out and said something to them, made an example. Maybe then they would get the hint to take an extra minute and think about life around them.

[/Rant]

Yes. They are dumb. I'll bet if you called them out on it they would not have thought they were doing anything wrong, and they would have no idea that tailgating is a 5 point ticket.

In Taiwan, everybody has a camera mounted to their rear view mirror, and uses a scan disk card that can hold like an hour of footage. They're only 100-200 bucks, and it keeps alot of people pretty straight there for as hectic as their traffic is since they take clear footage of their license plates. I'm contemplating giving money to my wifes brother to order me one so I can start hitting people with tickets here in the states. I have days off, and I'm more then willing to go to court and see them be punished.

Back to your story: Next time, tell the crossing guard whats going on, she will be more then glad to have them pull aside and give them a nice lecture/call police to issue ticket. They don't take to kindly people around here, even stopping slightly in the crossing walk.

This is not a rant, this is an eye opener that some are as poor a driver as they are at parenting. You wonder why kids today are terrible drivers, darting in and out of lanes with no signal, stopping at the last minute, etc. For 6 months your parents are the biggest influence on how you drive, now that's a scary thought.

I had a huge f350 with a landscape trailer tailgate me through a school zone today as well, this one actually went around me across a double yellow and then nearly caused an accident after barely stopping at a stop sign.

So I feel your pain about tailgating and I also feel your pain about moronic parents, but don't really wanna get into that..

I just couldn't even wrap my mind around the situation after I saw them turn into the school. Beyond belief.

And this.

I have to admit though, now driving over 100 miles a day during the week, I have developed some pretty nasty habits of tailgating and speeding. I try to curb it, but when I'm not paying attention, I fall victim to it too. School zone though with your kid in the car? Awful parenting and all the more culpable if you ask me.

Yea, I don't think any of us are claiming to be perfect little do-gooders on the road, but speeding and tailgating in a local school zone while you are about to drop your own child off at that school is pretty much inexcusable. While my driving has calmed down quite a bit overall since I have had kids of my own, school zones and such stand out even more.

dude i have experiences like this everyday.... This society is so ****ed man. Seem likes people become more self centered and dumber by the day. People dont care about the consequences of their actions. glad nothing happen to you or the little kid in the car. i can only hope the person driving fell down the stairs that day and broke a leg or something.

It's frustrating right now how stupid people are driving. I keep getting tailgated pretty much everywhere and that's usually with me doing 3-5 mph over the speed limit. I had a guy tailgate me while towing the boat to the beach on Rt 539 last week. He was there for at least 10-15 minutes and I was doing 60 mph with the boat. Then he suddenly decided he had to pass me and he picked the worst spot and couldn't accelerate fast enough so I hit the brakes and he barely had room to cut in. I caught up to him at the next light. Had a guy on my bumper coming down my road when a deer hiding in the ditch popped it's head up. I was ready and hit the brakes. The guy behind me finally backed off after that. Stupid driving is at a high level right now, and it will probably get worse as the leaves fall and cause slick roads.

Moral of story buy a lifted truck (or jeep) and not give a single *** if someone tailgates you. Fumugating them with diesel just adds to the fun.

This. I always go slower when someone rides on my bumper. Me and Beggs had an interesting experience with this on the way home from the meet the other day.

I was thinking about this a little while ago...I'd go to the school and say something if you can remember the year/make/model/color of the car...I doubt they'll do anything but you never know...
