I think you can already get a ticket under current law for any vehicle that smokes.
"Rolling coal" is stupid. Those idiots are drawing attention to themselves and it will cost everyone

Old news, federally it went on a witch hunt and led to the ban of a lot of tuners for sales, and forced a lot of shops/stores to force you to sign the "only to be used off road" forms.
Basically, idiots being idiots. Still have yet to figure out how HS kids afford +20k trucks and the cost of fueling em. Diesel trucks, its a fad that I really hope dies soon.

My Dodge smokes for about 3-5 min, whiteish/blue after cold starts, after sitting a few weeks. If I ever get stopped for it I'll be pissed, It's definitely not "rolling coal" though and the truck is bone stock.

 | You just would have to pass an opacity test, but, I don't think any NJ inspector even knows what they would have to test for.
My truck will belch soot on my big tune if I stomp on it, but, ironically I get my best mileage on that one, so I drive like an old person.

I wish I could have played with tunes. But being 12v Cummins.. oh well. One day I do want to do some upgrades but I think they will come as needed. The exhaust would probably be the first change, then air intake, injectors, fuel plate, and then a new trans out of necessity probably, lol.

On a side note, I have Ram1500 doors on my truck and they still have "V8 Magnum" emblems on them. That and no inspection sticker make going through police checkpoints fun. They apparently don't know what a diesel sounds like and still need to ask if it is.

Its semi new in new jersey. The problem is the law specifically states it is illegal to "roll coal" from a stack but makes no mention of doing it through an actual tailpipe. Now they may have revised it since I skimmed through the law a few months ago. That being said if you have an older diesel IE: 6.2, 6.5 GM or a ford 6.9, 7.3 IDI or even an early "power stroke" (7.3 IDI w/a turbo instead of N/A) it is pretty normal for them to puff a little smoke when you take off. The law is really geared towards people that lay down smoke screens

Not sure but based on the language I think it goes for anything (vehicles shall not emit visible smoke, whether from crankcase emissions or from tailpipe exhaust, for a period in excess of three consecutive seconds.) I figured blowing smoke would get you a ticket regardless but wasn't aware of this legislation.

Even the new big trucks have crazy emmision standards now. There can't be any smoke...period. DPF=no smoke but also causes more breakdown issues...at least that's the case in the KW's we use at work

The laws down here in Texas are really bad as far as rolling coal goes (because every other person had a diesel truck here). Basically it is automatically reckless driving no matter what. If you are caught doing it with a newer diesel that means you probably have deleted your DPF and other emissions equipment. If you are caught with no DPF stuff that is like a $25,000 fine and the cops down here enforce it big time. My roommate has a deleted 2010 2500 Cummins and roals coal all the time. I'm waiting for the day I get the call that he got his stuff towed and got some crazy big fines. Lol

I think rolling coal is dumb, personally.
But I have a real problem with politicians like Tim Eustace, who until getting smoked out, never heard of rolling coal - but yet spent time and resources to put up a bill banning it. This is typical of politicians, especially in the Northeast - reactive instead of proactive when it interferes or offends them.

I've been sending letters for years to get a concealed carry permit, but of course nothing...
