Gates open at 10:00 am and racing begins at 11:00. Tech inspection for all vehicles racing is at the new location (right by the staging lanes) and hopefully everyone can get through it relatively easily. Tech inspectors have been decent in recent years. Make sure your own personal safety gear is in order, including expiration dates on your helmets, seat harness belts, working brake lights, etc. If anyone needs direct guidance on tech inspection, just reach out to me or one of the usual racers for clarification. If your car is relatively fast, you should already be familiar enough with the required safety gear to match your timeslips, but just double check that you aren't overlooking something that a tech-inspector might flag you for. If you don't pass tech and don't get to make any passes, I will certainly refund your money, but I'd rather you just pass easily through safety-tech and get out on the track!
The dragstrip will be prepping both lanes of the track with glue up to the 330 foot mark. Since we typically have a variety of street-tread and race-tread vehicles, I want to isolate one lane of the track for drag-compound tires, at least for the first few hours of the rental. We did this last year and it seemed to work, but if anyone experienced any problems because of it, just let me know. So basically from 11am-1:30ish one of the lanes will be allocated for drag race compound tires. The other lane will be open to ALL type of tires (drag tires included), but the staff will put a cone out on the starting line to put these cars out of the dedicated starting line groove and not tear up the patch at the onset of the event. Then, sometime around 1:30 or 2:00 we will remove the cones and give people the freedom to use any area of the starting line in either lane.
The cost per vehicle is $200.
That is the true cost per vehicle which is listed on Island's website and they set the prices. I simply just collect money from everybody and hand it all over to them at the end of the day. The event is limited to 40 vehicles, so potentially the track could make $8000 that day. last year we had 27 vehicles and in 2024 it was 36 vehicles. If someone pre-pays and has to back out, I will get them their money back for sure. If you get to the track and don't make ANY passes (i.e. car is broken, or doesn't pass tech inspection), I can also get you your money back. However, once you start making passes, the track will expect the full $200 fee and I have to abide by that. If issues arise, I can do what I can to work with ya. If you are going to be driving multiple cars that day, you will need to pay for each vehicle; basically every tech-inspection sheet you hand is $200, as the fee is for the car and not for the driver. Drivers can certainly drive multiple cars also. Last minute registering is possible, but I have to have your payment in-hand on the morning of October 23, before you start filling out a tech-card. We have had some pretty good video/photo footage from the previous years too, and if anyone wants to attend that has camera skills, please do so! Spectators are allowed and in previous years, the cost has been free to spectate.
