Cure for the off season

tru2chevy's girlfriend(mylittlepony) bought him an xmod for christmas. as soon as we got it together i knew i had to have one.
i think i can officially say that jsutin and i have gone off the deep end with this already. step 1 was to run to office max and buy a cheap digital scale that can weigh in grams(stock with cheap batteries my car weighs 201 grams ) so we coudl lay out a weight reduction program. step 2 is that we are trying to figure out how to build a simple timing system so we can drag race in his basement(1:28 scale 1/4 mile is 47.14ft )
i think everyone should get one of these right away
maybe i shoudl add it to my sig so i cna say i have an f-body that runs

"67 camaro, stage2 motor, 6.00 gears, ball bearing kit, soon to be weight nazi'ed"

radio shack sells them. the car costs $50, then there are whatever accessaries you want. and you will need a 9volt batt for the controller and 4AAA's for the car itself.
i spent around 100bucks so far on mine with the ball bearings and stage2 motor kit.

yah, i have to grab teh scale from you and get to work on lightening up teh car
i figure i can get at least 10% of teh weight out of ti with in an hour or so
i did manage to get teh car to hook better at launch by sliding teh batteries back further. you can actually see teh trailing edge of teh battery holder in teh wheel well now
i will have to adjsut that a bit when i start messing with the wheel base on the car. have to see how far i can go and without having to cut teh body for clearance

Drill and small drill bits = light car
I'd also look at lithium ion battery upgrads and the "board/amp/piggy back" upgrade kits.
Could be have a destruction durby contest? North/South vs Central... you know, so the non-central have a chance 8)

for batteries i was thinking about switching to a single 9volt top mounted and slid back a bit. teh weight is about teh same as the standard batteries, but with 3more volts.
teh wire is also a very light gauge. i see on a few sites they sell 18gauge "upgrade" kits for more than you can buy a small spool of back and red
there are going to be some holes drilled and parts/systems removed from the car. i also want to figure out a good way to take all the slop out of the steering, possibly getting it to have 0degrees of toe while i am at it.
i am gonna get another set of wheels and make a set of skinnies for teh front, prolly get that done this weekend.
thanks for starting all this karen

The reason the 9volt won't work is it's current limited. Yes it's got more volts but it can't deliver the amps needed to make power (watts). Look at a batteries mAh rating. The higher that number the faster your car will be. Example; 9volts but only 400mAh vs 6volts with 800mAh; 9*400 = 3600 while 6*800 = 4800
The NiCads have the lowest energy density (they suck) while the NiMH and lithion ion are high (reasons they're in newer electronics). I'd get some NiMH AA's with really high mAh ratings.
