any electricians here? i need 220v line.

ok im trying to get an estimate of the cost for some work. I need a 220v line run from the circuit breaker box to my garage. I am looking to buy a lift and i need the 220, also for a welder and other tools it would help. I can wire the box in the basement and i'd want another box in the garage which i could wire as well, but the thing i have no clue about is running the wires, i wouldnt even know where to begin. Â*The box now is completely at the other side of the house, maybe about 100' away. Â*Does anyone have any idea how much it would be, not exact just an idea(100, 200, 300, 400, 500, etc) Â*OR if anyone here is an electrician(or a family member) and could help me out, that would be great. thanks in advance for any help or info.

I'm not sure about cost, but what I do know is this: For certain reasons (I forget exactly why), you will not be allowed to wire the boxes yourself. It will not pass an inspection. At the apartment dad owns, the circuit breakers for both apartments (2 family house with an upstairs and downstairs) was in the basement. Thus only those living in the downstairs part could access it. If a breaker shut off upstairs without anyone home down, it couldn't get turned on unless we came out there with the spare keys or they came home. Needless to say, dad put a second box for the upstairs. However, he had to have someone run the wire to the new box and wire the box. After that, dad rewired the circuits himself. I'm not sure how much it cost him to have the electrician come out and do it, and since he and I are not talking at the moment I won't be asking him.

yea i figured the legal issues of it, since i need an electrician to run the wires, i'd have him do the boxes as well while hes there. also i think it may need a permit and ill let the electrician deal with that as well.
