Wife: "How long is THIS going to take to fix?"
Me: "I dunno, 20 minutes maybe."
An hour later, I'm still under the truck, fighting with whatever I was trying to fix, screaming in my best Lewis Black impersonation, "Son of a bitch!!!!"
It happens every time I have some project to do. It always takes longer than it should; doesn't matter if I'm working on my Jeep, or my wife's Jeep, or the Monte.

Same here, JM can attest to that
Usually I just curse a lot or "fook it, I'll finish it another time" and occasionally I do the tool throw

Engineers should be mechanics before they design anything

Basically just post up what is normally said while working on your car good and bad it doens't matter. Lets give it a shot..
"Here weird engine noises or rattleing ...
Turns music up
Hey it went away (in my head f**k i gotta look at that later)"
"This part isn't critical neither important either you dont need to or it can wait"
"You dont need that (tosses nut,bolt,part,ect...)"
"YOU ATE ANOTHER 10mm/13mm/ 1/2in / 15mm WTF!!!!!"
"Where does this part go I have recollection here"
"*drops something*
listens for clank.
checks beneath car.
looks back in engine bay.
checks beneath car again hoping that somehow terminal velocity in the engine bay is slower than the rest of the world.
acceptance kicks in.
swearing proceeds."
|
I think I've bought 3 or 4 of those damn 10mm sockets from Sears....they never break....or around long enough.....they always fall into the engine bay and NEVER hit the floor.....NEVER......

If I have extra parts left when I'm done doing something, I like to tell myself I outsmarted the engineers
I also like to make threats to people I've never met, like "I'm going to take boxing lessons for a year and fly to detroit and beat the crap out of anyone who had a hand in the production of this car!"

I tend to curse at small bolts that dont thread or things just out of reach, or things that are just on the cusp of coming out.
Its mostly cursing, and not your convetional ****, ****, ass...its deeper. Usually combining of words into compound words, or just a merging of two words.

"time for the heat wrench"
"what size do you need?"
"just grab the vise-grips"
Dad: "we'll fix that next time you break something"
"we're getting a lift" (at least 6 times a year)
or that deathly feeling you get when you take the intake off, and miraculously a bolt resting on top of it got over looked and falls. you sit there hoping it doesn't make it all the way through, knowing that this is gonna take much longer than initially planned. no words can describe that.
