idk i think it should be a law that crossing guards shouldnt stop any and all f-bodies...in fact they should stop traffic not only for kids, but for performance cars as well

The fact is that if us Jersey drivers were actually courteous to each other there probably wouldn't be a need for crossing guards. I'm guilty of it too, but not when it comes to kids or school busses. Re-thinking that I should change my evil ways and let someone merge sometime .

Group hug!

No crossing guards are not allowed to direct traffic. The only thing they are there for is to ensure the safe crossing of children, as soon as all children are out of the cross walk, they have no right to continue standing in the street. I used to have to drive around a crossing guard in east windsor because he would stop traffic on the through street and allow everyone coming out of the side street (where the school is) go first. Screw that.

ETA, I have no problem when a crossing guard is in the middle of the street with a stop sign allowing the safe crossing of little kids, that's fine. What I'm talking about, and I think the other posters and the OP are talking about, are the crossing guards that after all kids are safely out of the intersection, REMAIN in the middle of the road, with their stop signs up, directing traffic so that school buses, and parents in the school parking lots, or on the school roads, don't have to listen to the stop signs they have and can pull out. All this time, traffic on the MAIN road is backed up because the crossing guard feels like playing policeman/policewoman.

the crossing guards by me are hired by the police department. they have the power to, and do direct traffic at many intersections by my house. they also direct traffic on sundays on route 9 by the local churhes. they do a good job of integrating church traffic into existing.

 | Lol I'm not talking about 30 seconds I'm talking about sitting there for like 3-5minutes. And if you think I'm exaggerating I'm not that old. I still remember riding the bus and sitting there like "Wtf stop yapping I want to go home".
