How can this be? according to a few "experts" in this thread the car is pitiful and not impressive at all! I'm all confused! what am I missing?

Pretty impressive. I would say itll definatley do high 9s with good tires. That is definatley not something i would be doing with 100 miles on the car either. I love the whole idea of the viper. Stuff a giant motor in a little car!

The fanboi mod
Corvette is rated at 100 hp less but also weighs 200-300 lbs less and has better weight distribution. Basically you have to decide which advantage you want, weight and weight distribution or even more brutal HP to play with.
Either way, I wouldn't refuse either one.

Well I think it's fair to say that we all know about the Corvette. But to say that Viper isn't impressive is an asinine statement, imo. If Viper isn't impressive than neither is McLaren F1, Ferrari Enzo, or Pagani Zonda.

Here's a formula for impressiveness:
Given that:
e = Horsepower+Torque numbers
r = redline in RPM
t = number of gears in the transmission
c = 1 for automatic, 2 for manual, 4 for paddle shifter
g = number of g's on the skidpad
i = how many useless gee-gaws are in the interior
cf = how much carbon fiber is on it
l = overall looks and styling, equal to the number of people who say that they would buy one on a message board and then never do
bd = 1 if it has a bow tie or dart on it, 0 if it does not
IMP = .375(e)(r) + .125(t)(c) + .25(g) + .125(i)(cf) + .125(l) + 99999(bd)

MY and CY are different.
MY 2008 shows up mid 2007.
That would make it nearly a 2 year old car.
Viper is an overhyped, overhorsepowerd, overscalloped and scooped, overrated sports car.
You have to go full on balls out ACR race car with full race suspension aka you cant drive it on a single road in NJ, to beat a Corvette of similar power.
Viper sucks my ass. Great, it ran 10's. Congrats. Color me not impressed from EIGHT POINT THREE LITER V10 when Corvette does it with 1.3 liters and 2 cyls less.
Sure, are they all faster then all my cars combined, sure. But in the relm that the Viper plays it, its a big sledgehammer in a class of sexy carbon fiber and leather coverd scalpels.

There is nothing here involving calc at all!!
Its straight up math. Its so easy, a Commie Russian can do it.
Viper is impressive in that its a big massive muscular performance sports car, but sit int he car for more then 30 mins, you will be dripping in sweat from the heat. Lets not get into the fact that the passanger space is ZILCH!! PLEASE sit in one...please. Check out that passanger side bucket-sized hole where the person puts thier feet. I had to keep my feet together, almost crossed, to fit into the car.

Bad monkey,
1. None of the people on this board will buy one, neither will they buy a ZR1. But sure I'll sit in one next time.
2. I do not about you but I have never bought a car for the passenger seat. I buy it for me.
3. If I was to buy either a Vette or a Viper, I would go with the Viper hands down. That's a personal preference.
4. Saying a car that runs 10's stock is not impressive is asinine, as I said before. How many cars run tens STOCK? Veyron, Viper, and? and yes swapping tires does not make the car stock.
5. I can use the ricer argument too. i.e. We did it with less displacement and weight blah blah blah. I have seen Honda run in single digits they must be better than anything else.

Getting a honda to run 9's is very good, and I have nothing but respect.
But when a Viper JUST got into the 10's, not that impressed when it makes 600hp.
Yes, 10's are fast, no doubt. Its as fast as a turbocharged 3.1 liter V6 Third gen.
But Im not totaly impressed with it.

So GM and Dodge both have cars, at similar price points, in similar performance categories, directed at similar markets, and one is impressive and one isn't?
There are two cars on the planet for under 100K that run 10's, the Z06 and the Viper. How is one impressive and one not? You want to talk all about the weight being a huge difference in performance when it is the Camaro vs Challenger conversation, where is all that chatter now that the weight gap is even bigger and it still put up the number?
And save the Corvette at the Ring speech, those track numbers are with professional drivers and the details always seem to come back questionable. So they don't really apply.

Oh, I forgot my grandmother drove the Viper ACR.
Again, Im not impressed that the Viper does what a Z06 does with 100 less hp.
And no one picked up on my little joke....damn it, I slipped it in there so well...

Once again, you are willing to overlook the weight thing that you made such a big deal out of in the past. I guess it isn't a convenient argument this time so you have to fall back to the "well it has more HP".
