Like has probably been said a million times, it is pointless to compare used cars to new cars. Of course its going to cost less. But you cant get a new one with a warranty. The camaro is going to do fine once there are enough of them they cant charge a markup anymore. In a couple months they will be everywhere just like the cobalt SS.

dealer markup for an ss. read the original post

Quote:
the salesman informed him they were tacking on an additional $5,000 markup. Of course her uncle said no way was he paying that, (It brought the price to just about $50,000)

well that would put it in the 40-50 range. ACTUAL PRICE MEANS NOTHING if a dealer isnt willing to sell it cheaper than the marked up price. the dealers are doing the exact opposite of what it should be doing. they should be trying to sell the crap our of them instead of holding ORDERED CARS for 5k MORE.

this is the reason the camaro will tank. not just because it is a tank

That is BS, I love Chevy's and the new Camaro but the way they are treating people because a car, I'm glad they are struggling. I feel bad for the factory workers but the dealers are the ones to blame. I cant stand sales people, they dont know **** about what they sell anyway. Its hard to buy American when they have dick heads selling you them.

It depends how you order it too. There was an orange SS with a sticker price of $43k because he got a lot of dealer installed items, the wheel/tire package he picked was a $4200 option.

well tell him that the contract is no longer valid, by accepting the down payment back the contract was voided and a new contract must be made, and dont think it will be the same, it will be the old contract +5000

That's just how the market works. Those who want it first pay a premium. Supply & Demand; when the supply is low, Price goes up.
Sorry about the uncle, luckily he's found a dealer that will work with him though. Tough that it's going to take an extra 3 months, but at least he'll get it for the price he wants.

Keep in mind that Chevy, GM have no way in controling the price the dealer charges due to franchise, state and federal laws.

I dunno where you shop for cars but i dont think ive been to a dealership where they arent like this. I would say it has nothing to do with the dealers...
