the end of an era in baseball

Regardless of weather or not you love or hate the Yankees. If you have a love for the game of Baseball you have respect for iconic figures of the game past present.
Last night while shagging batting practice fly balls in the out field Mariano Rivera, The greatest closer in baseball history with 608 saves, tore the ACL in his right knee. In what has been hinted as possibly his last season you expect to see the respected and great Rivera have another great season to end his Hall of Fame career. Instead of that a tear of the ACL may not only end his season but his career, striping him of the moment he deserves, and the fans like myself anticipate to watch baseball history unfold.

For fans my age and older it has amazing to watch Rivera pitch for 18 years, for one team, compiling all 608 saves.

It's a complete shame that this hero of a generation of baseball fans appears to have been stripped of a proper send off. Yankee fans will remember the feeling of knowing the win was in the bag when Rivera trotted out in the ninth. Fans of opposing teams will remember hoping for a couple of broken bat bloop singles to try to squeak one out.

It's a shame for a hero to go out this way

whenever his music hit and he ran out to the mound you were witnessing history. im disapointed i didnt get to see him pitch this year in person, and sadly he wont be throwing in any more of the games i attend.

			He MAY be finished.
I know he's up there in age and can't heal like a 22 year old but there's a chance he could be back on the field... hopefully

Exercise. Hell, I remember Guidry playing CF in games more than once. Just a freak injury.

He was in the outfield because it is part of his exercise plan. He has been doing it 18 years. It is in fact a freak injury. Joe Girardi has said numerous time that Rivera is not only the greatest closer ever, he is the best outfielder the team has. That says alot

Saw this last night. Unfortunate, and he's a class act, but no sense dwelling on it. He has everyone's support. The Yankees will be fine, and Mo will be a HOF'er soon. It's a shame he couldn't go out on his own terms. An ACL is a tough one to come back from. I know he'll want to play, but I think reason will get the best of him & he'll retire soon.

Especially if you are not 18 years old. And god knows what else they will find in there.

Its not that. Its more about how long it will take him to rehab from it and at that point if its worth it to him to go back and play...
